Football bet of the day

We’ve got plenty of midweek football action coming our way with a full set of Premier League fixtures, a delayed FA Cup game and Championship action on the menu for Tuesday night.

The game that has caught my eyes comes from the top flight, where Leeds United host Sunderland (19:30 GMT, TNT Sports 2). Check out my Football Bet of the Day down below.

Leeds vs Sunderland Odds

Two newly-promoted teams that look well-placed to stay up this season, have made a big impact on the Premier League this term. Sunderland had a tremendous start having revamped their entire squad, and they were punching well above their weight before Christmas.

They still are, to some extent, but they’ve slipped down to 11th in the league after one point in their last four outings - and they have clearly missed influential captain Granit Xhaka. He’s back now and helped them earn a point at Bournemouth, but I do still think we have seen a regression from Regis Le Bris’ team.

The Black Cats are just three points away from hitting that magical 40-point mark and practically confirming their place in the league next season, and that had to be the target when they won the play-offs against Sheffield United last season. Given the constant relegations of newly-promoted teams recently, both Sunderland and Leeds will be delighted if they can confirm survival before May.

Leeds have stuck with Daniel Farke, and they are keeping their head above water for now. 31 points from 28 games is good going, and now there’s a six-point gap between them and the bottom three, despite the fact that they lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City at the weekend.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Leeds have seen BTTS in 18 of their 28 games
  • Sunderland have picked up just 11 points on the road
  • Calvert-Lewin has scored 10 PL goals this season

They will certainly be targeting this game as a good chance to take all three points. Leeds have picked up 22 of their 31 points at Elland Road, scoring 22 in front of their own fans and conceding 19. Meanwhile, Sunderland have the fourth-worst away record in the Premier League, collecting just 11 points from 14 away trips this season.

They’ve relied massively on their home form to stay up, and I think I make Leeds the likely winners of this tie as a result. The reason I am putting this Price Boost up as my Football Bet of the Day is because I fancy Leeds to win and BTTS. Both teams have scored in 18 of Leeds’ 28 games, ranking them fourth-highest in the Premier League while both teams have found the net in the last two Sunderland outings.

If I back goals, it makes sense to go one step further and back Leeds’ main man to find the net again at Elland Road. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has 10 goals in 25 appearances, and only one in his last three so I’m going to back the former Everton man to get back amongst the goals against Sunderland.

A decent looking Price Boost on Tuesday night pays 11/2.
