Football Bet of the Day: Bagsmen on show in League 1

We’ve got action from the EFL to look forward to on Thursday night, with League 1 catching my eye as Wigan Athletic host Leyton Orient (19:45 GMT).

Wigan vs Leyton Orient Odds

We’ve seen a massive spike of improvement for Leyton Orient recently, with the London club racking up an impressive 13 points in their last five outings. That run of form has dragged the O’s away from relegation danger, while the Latics sit just two places and two points above the bottom four - albeit with a game in hand. 

These two still have work to do to confirm they wil be playing third-tier football next season, but interestingly they both possess elite goalscorers at the top end of the pitch - which is where this Price Boost comes into play. 

Joe Taylor joined Wigan on loan from Huddersfield Town in January, and has been a superb addition on loan from the Terriers. He’s got tremendous quality in the final third and has now scored nine goals in the blue and white, in just 14 League 1 appearances for Wigan. 

He’s boosted their survival hopes and has three goals in his last four, so he’s a top pick to find the net again. When we pair Taylor up with League 1’s top goalscorer in the form of Leyton Orient’s Dom Ballard, we have a tasty Price Boost at 8/1. 

Ballard has been the standout forward in the third tier so far this season, scoring a seriously impressive 21 goals in 33 league appearances - and he is in pole position to win the Golden Boot, as he is two goals clear of Stockport’s Kyle Wootton. 

Five goals in his last five appearances is good going, but he hasn’t scored in his last two - so he’s due one. I think this means we have to go for the Price Boost, even though the pressure is on both of these sides to perform. I’d lean towards Leyton Orient getting a result if pushed, but ultimately this game should contain plenty of goals.
