Football bet of the day

We’ve got a full fixture list coming from League 1 and League 2 this midweek, and it is one of those key fixtures which has caught my eye for Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day.

Huddersfield Town host Luton Town (19:45 GMT, Sky Sports+) in a game between two sides that were recently in the Premier League. Both teams are still tussling it out for promotion this term, but find my Football Bet of the Day down below.

Huddersfield Town vs Luton Town Odds

Two teams that were the pre-season favourites for promotion from League 1 this season find themselves in sixth and seventh place respectively as the nights start to get longer. It’s not been a massively successful campaign for either so far, with both clubs sacking the manager they started the season with.

Luton Town waved goodbye to new Oxford United manager Matt Bloomfield after a sluggish start to the 2025/26 campaign, while more recently, Huddersfield parted ways with Lee Grant and replaced him with former Oxford United manager Liam Manning.

After a top-six finish with Bristol City, Manning made the controversial move to Norwich City, where he failed to win a single home game and after fan protests, was eventually sacked himself. Now back in League 1, Huddersfield feels like a good fit for him at this time in his career.

The move to Norwich didn’t work at all, but this Huddersfield squad is one of the best in the third tier and should be contenders for automatic promotion. They sit sixth, and made the decision to remove Grant at the right time, with the club now 10 points behind the top two.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Huddersfield sit sixth, and won their first game under Liam Manning with 10 men
  • Luton have lost their last three away games

Promotion is still possible via the play-offs given their squad, with Alfie May, Marcus Harness, Ryan Ledson and Lynden Gooch all top-class experienced operators, while January arrival Bali Mumba adds some strength to that left side.

In his first game in charge, the Terriers overcame a strong Bradford City outfit 1-0 at home, despite being reduced to 10 just after the hour-mark. The celebrations at full-time were full of relief, given a home win wasn’t something that he experienced at Carrow Road. I think we saw enough in that game to suggest things have improved, winning the xG battle 1.59 vs 0.16 despite the red card.

They are the favourites for this clash, but I still think we are getting a good price at above EVS, given Luton have been hit and miss under Jack Wilshere. They lost 1-0 to Plymouth Argyle last time out and conceded five big chances in that game, so I’m concerned they could get taken apart here. Let’s back the hosts to get the job done on Tuesday night.
