Among five Bundesliga matches on Wednesday, bottom-placed VfL Bochum host St Pauli, where an away win looks likely.

Bochum appear to be heading for relegation in Germany this season having picked up just six points from their first 16 games and their dismal campaign looks set to continue with a midweek home defeat against 14th-placed St Pauli. Read on for our Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday, January 15.

  • St Pauli to beat VfL Bochum @ 9/5

Football Odds

Bochum have lost 12 league games this season to leave them struggling badly at the foot of the table and they are facing a difficult 2025, with Dieter Hecking's side seven points adrift of Heidenheim, who currently occupy the relegation play-off place in 16th.

They did secure their only Bundesliga victory so far against Heidenheim, winning 2-0 at home just before Christmas, but resumed after the winter break with another damaging defeat, going down 2-0 at the hands of Mainz on Saturday.

With Wednesday’s opponents St Pauli only four places above Bochum in the table, this is a game the hosts will be hoping to take something from, but the visitors offer much more appeal to win at 9/5.

St Pauli signed off before the break with an encouraging 1-0 win at last season’s runners-up, Stuttgart, while they have also won away at Hoffenheim and Freiburg this term to suggest they should be good enough to eventually move away from the relegation zone in the second half of the campaign.

VfL Bochum vs St Pauli Odds

The trip to the Ruhrstadion is the first of four games for St Pauli against teams who are in and around them in the table and they know they could emerge from January in a much better position if they can string some positive results together.

Following the Bochum clash, St Pauli take on Heidenheim, who are below them in the standings, then Union Berlin, who are only three points better off, before a home game with Augsburg, who are currently just one point and one place above them.

Alexander Blessin’s side were narrowly beaten by top-four hopefuls Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend, losing 1-0 at home, but they were somewhat unfortunate not to get something from the clash.

St Pauli had more shots (18 compared to 14) than the Eagles and posted a better xG of 2.2, with the visitors managing an xG figure of just 1.5 on the day.

They can make amends for that disappointment by securing an important victory on Wednesday to further increase Bochum’s gloom.
