Football Bet of the Day: Goals and more goals at the Riverside
Viktor Gyokeres delivered just one goal when we needed him to strike twice for Sporting on Monday night, but we are back again looking to find another winner for our Football Bet of the Day.
There’s Champions League quarter-finals and a whole host of EFL action to get stuck into and obviously, that is where my eyes are drawn for Tuesday's Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, April 8
- Middlesbrough vs Leeds - over 4.5 goals @ 5/1

I actually cannot wait to settle down on my sofa and watch this one tonight. Leeds United are in serious trouble of throwing away the league title they look like they had wrapped up with a victory at Bramall Lane in February, but one win in six since has seen them drop to third.
They failed to beat relegation-threatened Luton at the weekend as Burnley took top spot, and Daniel Farke and the fanbase are seriously buckling under the pressure. A trip to in-form Middlesbrough then, is the last thing they would have wanted.
Boro have been ripping up the underlying numbers this season, posting the second-highest xG figures over the course of the campaign. Only Leeds have created better chances per 90 this season, and with the two teams meeting at the Riverside, that should mean goals. Boro went through a shocking run of form earlier in the season, but have stuck with Michael Carrick and their form has now turned around.
They’ve won five of their last seven matches and their last three in a row at the Riverside, so they could put Leeds to the sword tonight as they continue their play-off push. Farke obviously made the big call to drop Illan Meslier at the weekend and although they should help them concede slightly fewer goals, I’m still not convinced about the Whites right now.
Middlesbrough vs Leeds Stats
- Leeds have failed to score in just seven of their 40 Championship matches (17.5%)
- Boro have scored the first goal in four of their past seven league games
- This fixture last season finished 4-3 to Leeds, while Leeds beat Boro 3-1 in December
The reason why I believe there will be plenty of goals tonight is because these two managers don’t know how else to play, and in past meetings we have seen enthralling encounters. In the league fixture at the Riverside last term, where both Carrick and Farke were in charge, Leeds came away with a 4-3 win and although the Boro scorers Isaiah Jones and Emmanuel Latte Lath are no longer at the club, the style of play hasn’t changed.
That season they also played out a 3-2 at Elland Road, while coming onto this season they have already met twice. Boro thumped Leeds 3-0 in the League Cup back in September but Leeds got their revenge at Elland Road with a 3-1 success in the Championship in December.
There’s a very common pattern emerging here and although we could play it safe by backing over 2.5 goals at 4/5, I don’t want to do that. I’m here to find excellent value, and in backing there to be over 4.5 goals on Tuesday night at the Riverside, I believe we could be onto a winner.
