Football Bet of the Day: I’m back in Paraguay and everything seems the same

Thursday’s football action focuses on the Europa League and Conference League qualifiers as teams from around the continent strive to make it into the group phase.
We’ve got plenty of fixtures to go at, but once again the Paraguayan Primera Division has my heart as I search for value for Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day. Let’s hope for another winner!
Football Bet of the Day - Thursday, July 31
- Libertad to beat Atletico Tembetary with -1 handicap @ 6/5
*odds correct at time of publication
I was seriously concerned about the Apertura champions Libertad last week, after they had endured a painfully slow start to the new campaign - picking up just one point from their opening three games and failing to score a single goal in those encounters.
I actually backed them to continue that losing streak as they traveled to Trinidense but I was clearly blinded by Paraguayan loyalty to the side I’ve adopted as my own, as Libertad ripped up the form book and secured a 2-0 success last time out.
Libertad vs Atletico Tembetary Odds
That will have lifted a massive weight off the shoulders of the side that won the Apertura title by five clear points. Although I still believe they aren’t quite the same side that we saw at the very start of 2025, they still possess plenty of quality, and importantly, have an incredibly kind fixture on the agenda on Thursday night (22:30 BST).
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Libertad won the Apertura title by five points
- Atletico Tembetary have lost four from four this season
Libertad host Atletico Tembetary, who are one of the worst teams in the Paraguayan top flight right now. They finished bottom of the Apertura, picking up a shocking total of 18 points from 22, winning just three games all campaign.
Now we are four games into the Clausura, and guess what? Atletico Tembetary are just as woeful. Their current record reads: played four, lost four, three goals scored and eight conceded. They are in serious danger of finishing bottom of the pile yet again and in fact they are only kept off that 12th spot because of the pathetic efforts of General Caballero - a team that has only scored once in four defeats so far.
I think this is all relatively straightforward and we are siding with the team that won the Apertura, against the team that finished bottom and are still in rotten form. Adding the -1 handicap gives us a decent price of 6/5, and I’m confident that Libertad can put that slow start well behind them, and secure us another winner for Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day.
