Football Bet of the Day: Palmeiras to edge end-to-end contest

The early bird catches the worm and it’s an sharp start for Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day, which comes from the Brazilian Serie A, as Palmeiras host Gremio at Allianz Parque (01:00 kick-off).
Palmeiras have adapted well after coming back from the Fifa World Cup in the United States empty-handed and they can continue their positive Serie A form against a struggling Gremio side this weekend. Read below for my Football Bet of the Day for Sunday, July 27.

Palmeiras are playing catch-up in Serie A after their efforts up in the United States at the Club World Cup.
Finishing top of Group A in the tournament, Palmeiras went on to beat Serie A rivals Botafogo in the round of 16, before losing to the eventual champions Chelsea.
While it was a competition that ended in disappointment for manager Abel Ferreira, his side showed they can match big European teams and why they have been a powerful force in the Brazilian top flight in recent years.
Back with the bread and butter of Serie A football, Palmeiras find themselves in third place in the table with six points between themselves and current frontrunners Cruzeiro.
With two games in hand on the leaders, Palmeiras will want to make the most of those, starting with Gremio’s visit to Allianz Parque on Sunday.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Palmeiras are looking for a third consecutive win
- The Big Green have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six league games, while Gremio have scored in all of their last 11 Serie A outings
Big Green are looking for their third win on the bounce in Serie A following recent successes over Atletico MG and Fluminense.
Unbeaten in their last three league games, Palmeiras have their eyes firmly set on beating a Gremio side they overcame 1-0 in their last meeting back in November.
Estevao scored the decisive goal in that game and, while the now-Chelsea player will be unavailable for the hosts, Palmeiras should still have enough firepower in the final third to claim all three points on Sunday.
However, don’t expect the Sao Paulo outfit to have it all their own way against a Gremio side that are sat down in 14th place in the Serie A standings.
Palmeiras have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six league games, while Gremio have scored in all of their last 11 Serie A outings.
With the likes of Facundo Torres, Felipe Anderson and Vitor Roque in the final third, Palmeiras have enough to win an end-to-end contest and there’s value to be had for a home win with both sides getting on the scoresheet.
