We are back with another Football Bet of the Day this Saturday, and once again we are looking at the Scottish League Cup for our fix. There’s a load of fixtures on offer as the group stage swings into action, and our focus takes us to Gayfield Park as Arbroath host St Mirren (15:00).

Below you will find Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day.

Arbroath enjoyed a cracking season last term, securing the Scottish League 1 title and earning a spot in the Championship as a result. The Red Lichties (what a nickname that is, by the way), finished seven points clear of Cove Rangers, despite slowing up at the tail-end of the season with no wins in their last three.

They proved themselves to be a top-class outfit over the course of the season, but once promotion was all-but secured, they did take their foot off the gas. They drew with Queen of the South, lost to Annan Athletic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle while subsequent results in recent club friendlies against the Dundee duo mean that the hosts have now failed to win any of their last five matches overall.

Arbroath vs St Mirren Odds

You can take as much or as little information from those friendlies as you would like, but Arbroath also struggled in the League Cup group stage last season, finishing third after one win, one draw and two defeats.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Arbroath won Scottish League 1 last season, but they are winless in three competitive games
  • St Mirren are unbeaten in their last six and finished sixth in the Scottish Premiership

It means they head into this first League Cup tie as underdogs as they welcome Premiership outfit St Mirren to Gayfield Park. Both teams will be keen to get an early win on the board in 2025/26, but the gulf in class should become fairly obvious.

St Mirren finished in mid-table in the Premiership at the end of the regular season and then stayed in sixth after the end-of-season split - so they are a more than competitive top-flight outfit.

Thry put together a strong run to end the season, going unbeaten in their last six, accumulating three wins and three draws along the way. That gives me good belief that they can hit the ground running this term, as they’ve also registered wins in pre-season over MK Dons and Dumbarton.

St Mirren beat Arbroath 4-0 in last season’s League Cup, and I can’t see them struggling to take maximum points again here. Let’s back them to win again, with a -1 handicap to boost our odds slightly.
