Football Bet of the Day: Big price for away win in Turkey

Monday’s football action sees Leeds United continue their quest for the Championship title and several Serie A games are also taking place, however we are looking east for our Football Bet of the Day.

It’s not my usual haunt for our Football Bet of the Day, but I’m heading over to Turkey to try and find a winner on this fine Monday. With limited action available to us, I’ve cast my net further afield, and I think I may have stumbled upon something. 

The Turkish Super Lig is a division I’ve worked on in the past, and I know how difficult it can be to predict. However, with Galatasaray in pole position to win another title and Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in second, we have turned our attention further down the table. 

On Monday night (18:00) 10th-place Goztepe host sixth-placed Istanbul Basaksehir in what could turn out to be a crucial game for the away side. You see, although they are down in sixth right now, they are bang in-form and the other teams outside the top-two are dropping points at will.

Surprise package Samsunspor are in third but have lost four games on the bounce, while Eyupspor and Besiktas are also losing game frequently. It means the door is wide open for the 2019/20 champions to take third, and ahead of the weekend, they are just three points behind Samsunspor who don’t seem able to win a point. 

This all brings me onto Monday night’s game, which sees Basaksehir travel to face Goztepe in a tough away match. Now, Goztepe’s home form is terrific, and they’ve won nine, drawn five and lost just once at the Gursel Aksel Stadium this season. The hosts are therefore the clear favourites to win this game as well, so why am I going against the grain and backing an away win?

Well, Istanbul Basaksehir have more to play for, and they are in better recent form. Goztepe have remarkably failed to win any of their last 11 league matches, and they were beaten by Trabzonspor last time out in the semi-finals of the Turkish Cup. All of that feels like a season that had such promise, ending with a whimper.

Meanwhile, the away side are in great fettle right now, having won their last four matches on the bounce. That run has included an impressive 2-0 away win at Besiktas, and it feels like after a slow start they are finally kicking into gear. 

I always look at recent form more than anything else, and given the home side can’t buy a win, I’m more than happy to back Istanbul Basaksehir to come out on top. The home record is concerning, but it hasn’t paid dividends in recent weeks, so let’s take advantage of a great price on offer. 11/5 for Istanbul Basaksehir to beat Goztepe is Monday’s Football Bet of the Day.
