Football Bet of the Day: Monday’s pick comes from Spain

There may be Premier League action on Monday night as Chelsea host Wolves, but for our Football Bet of the Day for Monday, I’ve taken a look over to Spain. La Liga offers up an intriguing clash between Villarreal and Mallorca, and you can read more about this fixture down below.
Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, January 19
- Mallorca to beat Villarreal @ 18/5
Villarreal currently sit fifth in the table having picked up 30 points from 19 games this term, so it may not surprise you to see them listed as the 4/5 favourites as they host Mallorca, who sit one place below them in the table.
Marcelino’s outfit are already out of the Copa del Rey and did quality for Europe, so have a free schedule to focus on La Liga. The Yellow Submarine ended 2024 with a 5-2 success over Leganes, but they were beaten 1-0 by Real Sociedad last time out, and that defeat could have knocked their confidence as they face a tricky home fixture on Monday night.
My selection sees us search for value, as I simply don’t think Mallorca should be priced at over 3/1 to take all three points this season. I think they could take advantage of Villarreal’s dodgy defence, which has conceded 31 times this term, giving them the joint-third worst defensive record in the division. Of course, their attack has more than made up for that, scoring 34, but I think the Bermellones will fancy their chances of coming away with a result.
If we look at Villarreal’s home record as well, it is full of holes. Marcelino's men havve only won three of their nine home league fixtures this term, and have won the majority of the points (17) on the road. That run of form isn’t bright, and I think Mallorca are a tough team to beat at home, as proven by their five away wins from nine in 2024/25.
Jagoba Arrasate’s men are on track to contend for a European spot, which would mark excellent progress after finishing 15th and 16th in recent years. They have lost their last two games, but those didn’t come in La Liga as they were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Pontevedra and then beaten by Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.
Turning their attention back to the league will suit them and they have already gone toe-to-toe with Villarreal this season, drawing the first fixture 1-1 and they have received a boost as Manu Morlanes and Vedat Muriqi return from La Liga suspensions. Villarreal meanwhile are struggling without their main man Ayoze Perez. He has scored 11 times in 14 appearances for them this season, but he has missed the team's last two matches due to a muscular problem and may not be fit to play in this one either.
All in all, I think this is going to be a tight encounter, but I do not see why Villarreal are such a short price to edge it. As a result, my Football Bet of the Day is going to be backing Mallorca to get another away win at a big price.
