Having missed out by five points last season and one point in 2022-23, Wolfsburg’s main target this term is qualifying for Europe.

Just one win - which came at Holstein Kiel - in their first five matches put them on the back foot, but four wins and two draws from the end of October through to early December got them back on track.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are now just one point outside the top six and currently five points from the Champions League places.

If they are to challenge those clubs above them in the standings, Friday’s home clash looks like a must-win against a team struggling to come to terms with life in the German top-flight.

After winning promotion last season for the first time in their history, the Storks have won just three of their first 18 games and sit 17th in the table.

Holstein Kiel are yet to win on the road this term and have lost all of their last five away games, including a 3-2 defeat at Freiburg earlier this month.

Wolfsburg vs Holstein Kiel Odds

After a poor start at home, Wolfsburg have won three and drawn one of their last five matches at the Volkswagen Arena.

Goals have been on the agenda for the home side, with four or more goals scored in six of their last seven matches, with Hasenhuttl’s squad beaten 3-2 at Bayern Munich last week.

Outside the top three in the table, Wolfsburg are the leading scorers in the Bundesliga with 40 in 18 games.

Algerian striker Mohamed Amoura, on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise, is amongst the top 10 goalscorers in the Bundesliga, with eight goals and six assists in 16 appearances.

Meanwhile, Holstein Kiel have the worst defensive record in the league, conceding 46 times in their opening 18 games.

The visitors have leaked 21 of those goals in seven away games, conceding at least twice in all of those league matches on the road.

It is worth noting, though, that Marcel Rapp’s men have scored in each of those seven matches, with Phil Harres netting four times in the last four away games.

The head-to-head stats also point to a Wolfsburg success, with them having won all three of their previous competitive meetings, including a 2-0 success in the reverse fixture in August.
