Aberdeen beat Dundee

We open Saturday’s treble by taking a chance on an out-of-form Aberdeen in their trip to Dens Park. The Dons started the season well and were joint top of the league with Celtic earlier this term, drawing with the champions and beating Rangers in the Granite City. But the wheels fell off, and the visitors are now stuck on an extended winless run that includes five defeats in their previous six games. I expect that run to end finally.

The Dons scored an overdue win against Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup last weekend and have a great chance of securing a return to the national stadium. Jimmy Thelin’s team will need a rub of the green, but they’re fancied against a Dundee side six places beneath them in the table with just one win in six. Take a chance on Aberdeen to finally get win number 11 of the season following a prolonged wait.

Kilmarnock beat St Johnstone

Moving to the first of two home wins on Saturday, we’re backing Kilmarnock to get the desired result at Rugby Park when bottom side St Johnstone come calling. Killie haven’t exactly impressed under Derek McInnes this season, which is surprising, but the locals beat Dundee United here last time and pushed Hearts hard at Tynecastle. A home win against an opponent threatened by relegation gives Killie the chance for a much-needed double.

The Saints are 12th in the table, with six wins, three draws, and 16 defeats, scoring 28 goals and conceding 48. St Johnstone travel from Perth with the second-worst defence in the league after Dundee and at least three more defeats than any other team in the Premiership. The visitor’s problems will continue on the artificial surface.

Motherwell beat Ross County

The second home win and third pick from our Saturday treble is on Motherwell to beat Ross County at Fir Park. The Steelmen remain without a manager as interim boss Steven Frail continues to plug the gap. The former Hearts and Morton player was in the dugout for a 3-1 reverse against Celtic earlier this month before enjoying a break over the cup weekend. That rest and chance to reflect will help improve their fortunes. Motherwell are on a poor run of form but remain in the top six.

Ross County bus from the highlands sitting second from the bottom of the league, one place above St Johnstone and five beneath their hosts. The Staggies have taken just one of the last nine points available and lost 4-0 at Ibrox in their most recent start, failing to trouble their opponents for much of the game. Back Motherwell to feed off the crowd and score a vital three points while piling pressure on County.
