Hearts to beat Dundee
We get things moving on Friday night when Hearts host Dundee at Tynecastle in an all-Premiership clash. Which team will progress to the semi-finals, securing a day out for their fans at Hampden later this season? I’m confident Hearts will make home advantage count to win the tie in regulation time.
The Jambos are up to seventh in the Premiership, following four wins in their previous six games. They finished February with back-to-back wins over St Johnstone in Perth and St Mirren at Friday’s venue, scoring five goals in the process. Hearts are picked to eliminate a Dundee side that’s stuck in the relegation zone after taking just one of the last 18 points up for grabs. Hearts will pile misery on their opponents.
Aberdeen beat Queens Park
It has been a strange season for followers of Aberdeen. The Dons opened the campaign with a long unbeaten run, even drawing with Celtic in Glasgow and beating Rangers in the City of Discovery. They were tied for pole position before dropping off the pace and sliding down the Premiership pecking order.
Queens Park shocked the world when they beat Rangers at Ibrox in the previous round, knocking the Gers out of the competition and inflicting the club’s most embarrassing defeat in the cup. Will they repeat the feat? I certainly expect the Championship side to arrive in high spirits, but their incredible journey will end here. Back Aberdeen to win.
Celtic beat Hibs
If you read my in-depth preview of Celtic vs Hibs in Glasgow, you’ll already know I strongly fancy a home win. Celtic are priced as hot favourites with Betfred, and it’s difficult to argue against that stance. They are the holders, arrive in fantastic form, and move closer to a stunning domestic treble for Brendan Rodgers.
Celtic have already beaten Hibs twice in Glasgow this season. The Hoops strolled to a 3-1 win here in the League Cup back in August before roaring to a 3-0 win in the Premership in December. Hibs are in great form and beat Celtic 2-1 recently in the capital, but the home team will fire back when it matters most and progress to the semi-finals.
St Johnstone beat Livingstone
The final of four teams picked to win their quarter final is the one we may need most luck with. It’s also the only away win backed this weekend. Premiership St Johnstone travel to Championship Livingston on Monday from 19:45 GMT, and many followers of Scottish football expect an upset. Will the second-tier high-fliers beat an opponent struggling at the wrong end of the top division?
The Saints are at the bottom of the Premiership, but they’re not about to sink to the Championship without a fight, winning three and drawing two of their previous six. They’ll meet a confident and ambitious opponent in the Livi Lions on their patch, but St Johnstone’s class will shine through to ensure they edge into the semi-finals.
