No luck last week but the 3-3-3 column is still in good profit for the season so on Jamie Pacheco goes.

This week’s selections are made up of a half time/full time bet, an ‘overs’ selection and a handicap wager, so you can find my Cross European Football Accumulator Tips below.

Cross European Football Accumulator Tips

  • Benfica vs Boavista – Benfica/Benfica on the half time/full-time market @ 2/5
  • Las Palmas vs Barcelona – Barcelona -1 @ 8/13
  • Verona vs Fiorentina – Over 2.5 goals @ 1/1

Treble pays 4.53/1

Welcome to the 3-3-3 betting column. Why is it called that? Glad you asked.  It’s not a formation to play when you’ve had a man sent off but rather:

3- The number of different selections making up the acca.

3- The number of different (non-English) European Leagues the selections are taken from every week.

3- The minimum odds (3/1) or 4.0 if you prefer, that the acca will come to it every week.

And it really is as simple as that. The selections can be from any betting markets, as long as they meet the criteria set out above. To round things off, every week I’ll leave you with a cool (or at least I think so) bit of trivia involving one of the teams featured in the acca. Simples...

Current P and L: +2.84pts

We were never in business last week after Atalanta and Cagliari played out a goalless draw when we needed BTTS and that was that. But we’re still 2.84 points in profit for the season and a win for the 3-3-3 column this week would seriously improve on that figure. Let’s hope so.

Benfica v Boavista

Saturday February 22, 18:00

Selection: Benfica/Benfica in the half time/full time market @ 2/5

Benfica were involved in an absolute classic in midweek, drawing 3-3 with Monaco in a real see-saw game that had a bit of everything but ultimately saw them go through 4-3 on aggregate.

Sure, there may be some fatigue, including some of the emotional type, but they have had some days to recover and some new signings in January mean they can bring in some fresh legs for this one.

Boavista are one of the league’s big strugglers this season. Or in fact, the biggest strugglers of them all, given they’re rock bottom. They’ve lost all of their last seven.

A Benfica win should be a formality, but they should also manage to do it by being ahead at half-time. Benfica/Benfica on the half time/full time market is 2/5 so probably not a price to be playing as a single, but exactly the sort of price to include in the 3-3-3 column.

Las Palmas v Barcelona

Saturday February 22 20:00

Selection: Barcelona -1 @ 8/13

Barcelona played out an entertaining match in midweek against Rayo Vallecano. It was more entertaining than the 1-0 final result suggests, at least, and Barcelona should have scored more.

The smart money is on Lewandowski, Raphinha and co having their shooting boots on this weekend when they travel to Las Palmas, who are 17th.

Including a Cup game, Las Palmas have lost six of their last seven. Admittedly, some of those have been tight, going down by a single goal. But then again, the teams beating them haven’t been of the standard of Barcelona.

Real beat them 4-1 for example. A slight improvement in Barcelona’s finishing should see them win by two clear goals, which would mean our Barcelona -1 (handicap) selection would be a winner.

Hellas Verona v Fiorentina

Sunday February 23 14:00

Selection: Back Over 2.5 Goals @ 1/1

Verona are two points above the relegation zone and that’s a pretty good position to be in considering…no-one has conceded more goals in Serie A than them. And by a considerable margin. Thye’ve let in 58 goals this season. To give that some context, Lecce, who are one place above them have conceded 41 and Empoli, who are one place below them, just 38.

But we’re far less concerned with Verona’s league position than we are with how many goals there might be in their match against Fiorentina this Sunday.

Verona have an 83% strike rate when it comes to over 2.5 goals matches when they’re at home this season.

In their last two home games, they lost 3-0 and 5-0 (!) so you can see how those three goals we need could easily all be scored by Fiorentina. Their own ‘overs’ record stands at 50% for the season but it’s now four in a row where there have been three or more goals in their away matches. So at what looks a big price, we should come very close.

James’ Fun Fact

At a time when English players going abroad was a rarity, former Everton and Tottenham cult hero Vinny Samways played for Las Palmas for six seasons (1996-2002), making 160 appearances before a one-season spell at Sevilla preceded a return to England with Walsall.
