Match Result - Kawasaki Frontale (H) to beat Avispa Fukuoka (11:00 BST) @ 5/6
Between 2017 and 2021, Kawasaki lifted four of the five J1 League titles, but Azzurro Nero have missed out on the last three, finishing eighth last year, 20 points behind champions Vissel Kobe.
After 24 rounds of fixtures this season, though, Kawasaki are still in title contention, despite sitting seventh ahead of the weekend, as top-of-the-table Kobe are only eight points ahead.
Back-to-back away defeats against Tokyo Verdy (1-0) and Gamba Osaka (2-1) have stunted their progress, but they've won their last two league games at the Kawasaki Todoroko Stadium, where they entertain Avispa Fukuoka on Saturday.
The visitors are 11th, six points behind their next opponents, but while they are unbeaten in their last six league matches, they've won just two of those, drawing the last three.
Avispa won their first three away games 1-0 this year, but have triumphed just once in their last seven on the road (W1, D2, L4), blanking in four of their last six.
Their recent record against Kawasaki doesn't make for positive reading, as they are winless in their last eight head-to-heads in all competitions, suffering seven defeats since May 2022.
Kawasaki picked up an easy 3-1 win at home last December, and I expect another routine victory for the hosts on Saturday.
Match Result - Coventry City (H) to beat Hull City (15:00 BST, Sky Sports+) @ 8/11
Opening-day fixtures can be tricky to predict, hence just one of Saturday's tips coming from the EFL Championship.
One match in which I am confident of the victor, though, is Coventry City against Hull City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The hosts triumphed 2-1 in last season's corresponding game in December, battling back from being a goal down at half-time to claim all three points thanks to a strike apiece from Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Rudoni. Hull's goalscorer that day, Joao Pedro, who top-scored for the Tigers in 2024/25 with six Championship efforts, has since departed the club, and their transfer business this summer, which has been affected by an embargo on incomings, hasn't been inspiring.
Coventry, on the other hand, have boosted their squad with the permanent signings of Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Miguel Angel Brau, and brought in Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, who made a couple of league appearances for Hull last season, on loan.
The Sky Blues have retained their key stars, too, and after heartache in the play-off semi-finals last season, Frank Lampard will be targeting another promotion push in 2025/26.
At home, where they picked up 65.22% (45) of their 69-point haul last season, I'm confident they will get the new campaign off to a successful start, against a Hull side managed by an unknown quantity in Sergej Jakirovic, who has replaced Ruben Selles in the dugout.

Match Result - The Strongest (A) to beat Nacional Potosi (22:30 BST) @ 6/4
In the Bolivian Primera Division, The Strongest travel to Nacional Potosi's Estadio Victor Agustin Ugarte, looking to record a fourth consecutive league win to keep the pressure on top-of-the-table Always Ready, who lead their rivals only on goal difference.
Always Ready thrashed The Strongest 7-2 on July 6, but prior to that chastening defeat, Tigre had won four straight games, meaning they have claimed maximum points in seven of their last eight Primera Division matches.
On Saturday, The Strongest take on Nacional Potosi, who are 10th in the 16-team table, 20 points behind their next opponents.
Nacional Potosi have won two of their last three games, but that followed a six-match winless run, and only three clubs have won fewer league games this season than La Banda Roja (four), who have lost as many (three) as they have won (three) at home (W3, D1, L3).
The Strongest are unbeaten in their last four head-to-heads with Nacional Potosi, recording three wins and one draw, and in this season's reverse fixture on April 6, they coasted to a 2-0 success courtesy of a first-half brace from Enrique Triverio.
The visitors will be desperate to win on Saturday to overtake Always Ready and apply pressure on their rivals in the title race ahead of their match at Blooming the following day, and I think they will be able to get the job done in Potosi.
To Win to Nil - Flamengo (H) To Win to Nil vs Mirassol FC (22:30 BST) @ 5/6
Serie A leaders Flamengo suffered penalty shootout heartbreak earlier this week, losing out to Atletico Mineiro in their Copa do Brasil last-16 tie, despite winning the second leg 1-0 in Belo Horizonte. Rubro Nego were also held in their last league game, drawing 1-1 at Ceara last weekend, so they'll be glad to return to home comforts in the league on Saturday.
Flamengo are one of four clubs unbeaten at home in Serie A this season, but the other three sides can't match their 23-point tally, achieved through seven wins and two draws from nine games. They've won their last four league games at the Estadio do Maracana, and seven of their last eight, with only Botafogo (0-0), back on May 18, denying them all three points in that run.
Next up to try their luck at the Maracana are Mirassol, who are enjoying a fine first season so far in their maiden Serie A campaign, following promotion last year.
Leao da Alta Araraquarense are currently fifth, 13 points ahead of the relegation zone, and only Flamengo (also two) have lost as few league games in 2025.
A 3-2 victory over Vasco da Gama last weekend made it nine matches unbeaten, a brilliant run that should inspire confidence ahead of a daunting trip to Rio de Janeiro.
All good things must come to an end, though, and I think the Maracana is where Mirassol will experience their first defeat since May 5.
Flamengo are a wounded animal after their stalemate with Ceara was followed by a cup exit at Atletico-MG, and that spells danger for the visitors, in my opinion.
The hosts have so much strength in depth, and at home, where they have conceded just once in nine games, they should overpower their opponents.
