Alexander Isak
If you were to read any of the news around Newcastle’s Swedish striker, then you would probably be forgiven for thinking that the Toon are just keeping him warm for a so-called bigger club to swoop in and sign him on the cheap next summer. I’m not so sure that is going to happen.
The 25-year-old has found both his form and fitness in recent weeks and is the best striker in the Premier League right now. He’s scored in four-straight, including his first hat-trick for the club down at Portman Road on Saturday.
Last season he bagged a brace against Aston Villa and with the way Newcastle are playing at the moment, you feel as though he has every chance to score yet again in front of that adoring crowd. Getting odds-against feels like a great price as I think this leg clearly has a better than 50% shot of coming in.
Anthony Elanga
The biggest price of the quad but there is some method to my thinking. The former Manchester United youngster has scored in back-to-back games, which certainly helps but I’m more looking at who is rocking up to the banks of the River Trent on Boxing Day.
Spurs look dysfunctional at the moment. They have an injury-crises that is really stretching their squad and couple that with Ange Postecoglou’s insistence on playing with a high-line and trying to play out from the back. This is a recipe for disaster. I like the chances of Elanga breaking an offside trap or two and scoring one on the break.
Borja Sainz
Norwich City may have a similar problem to Newcastle in fending off suitors for their star man but the battle may be more imminent. Borja Sainz has already scored 15 goals so far in the Championship, which is five more than anyone else and that is despite having not found the back of the net so far in December.
La Liga clubs are said to be circling and keeping hold of him through the January transfer window is going to be key as to whether they make a serious run at the play-offs. His 15 goals have come with an xG of just 8.4, which shows how lethal he is in front of goal.
This four-game drought is his worst of the campaign but it feels like this is an opportune moment to get back in the habit of scoring.
Jay Stansfield
Most people will have read that Birmingham signed a striker for £15million in the summer and then forgotten all about it. Well that man has certainly found his rhythm in the third-tier and has scored in six of his past seven matches. Only Stockport County have been able to keep him from finding the back of the net since October.
Relegation-threatened Burton Albion are next-up. With the form Stansfield is in, coupled with who Birmingham play next, you can see why this leg makes an awful lot of sense.
