Hamilton beat Banks O’Dee

We open our Scottish Cup away win fourfold with a bet on Championship side Hamilton to defeat Highland League representatives Banks O’Dee. It promises to be exciting knockout football, with both teams confident of booking their place in the next round and drawing a money-spinning tie against either half of the Old Firm.

The Dee hold the home advantage and are performing well in the Highland League, but suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Brora Rangers when last in action.

The hosts have suffered with a few postponed games recently, which should leave them a little rusty and off the pace, especially when this game reaches the later stages.

At that point, Hamilton will aim to use their experience and fitness to score an important away win. Accies arrive in poor form but will welcome the chance to leave their Championship woes at home for a day and enjoy the thrills of playing Scottish Cup football. Back the away team to get their name in the hat for the next round.

Inverness beat Cove Rangers

It’s not often you’ll find us supporting Inverness in our weekend accumulators, but they’re worth following on Saturday away to Cove Rangers.

Caley are in a world of trouble, currently in administration and facing an uncertain future.

The club has serious cash worries but boast a great history in cup competition and know an extended run in this tournament will add vital funds to the fight for survival. Scottish League One side ICT are unbeaten in three and won each of their last two.

Cove Rangers enter this cup game five places above their opponents in League One following six wins, two draws, and six defeats. They have scored 23 goals but conceded 19.

On closer inspection, we note that Inverness have lost fewer games than their hosts and conceded seven fewer goals. Interestingly, Inverness beat Cove 2-1 at this venue early last month, and we’re picking another battling upset.

Annan beat Fraserburgh

We switch to our bet on Annan Athletic to remove Fraserburgh from the running. Annan are a League One team that’s struggling for form and are winless in their previous four outings in the third-tier of Scottish football.

They are another team that will be happy for a break from the race for points and survival. They have been drawn against lower-league opposition and look worth a bet to extend their stay for another round at least.

Fraserburgh is a Highland League outfit who certainly have more of a chance at home than they would’ve if they had been forced on the road.

The locals enter on a decent run of form, winning three and drawing two of their last five. Fraserburgh enter with confidence and the backing of the home support, but Annan represents a step-up in class, and that should show in the final result.

Raith beat Linlithgow

We wrap up what I hope will be an early Christmas present for followers of our Scottish football accumulator articles with a bet on Raith Rovers away to Linlithgow Rose.

If you’ve never watched the Scottish Cup before, this game will be a great advert for what the competition is all about. Linlithgow have a chance to scalp a big-name opponent and give their hardy band of fans something to remember. But I expect disappointment for the hosts.

Raith Rovers are Mid-table in the Scottish Championship and have claimed seven of the last dozen points available. That purple patch includes wins over Ayr United and Airdrie, two teams much better than Saturday’s opponents. Take Rovers to provide a winning leg.
