Last year, the 3-3-3 column returned a profit of 17 points, which means that if you’d backed every treble recommended over the course of the season for level £10 stakes, you’d be up by £170.

That’s one of the better returns you’ll see in the tipping business and speaking of returns, Jamie Pacheco is returning again this year to do try to do it all over again, and maybe even improve on it.  Here’s the opening column of the 2025-26 season as he takes us through his Football Acca Tips for this weekend...

Football Acca Tips - Cross-European Treble

Welcome to the 3-3-3 betting column. Why is it called that? Glad you asked.  It's not a formation to play when you've had a man sent off but rather:

3- The number of different selections making up the acca.

3- The number of different (non-English) European Leagues the selections are taken from every week.

3- The minimum odds (3/1) or 4.0 if you prefer, that the acca will come to it every week.

And it really is as simple as that. The selections can be from any betting markets, as long as they meet the criteria set out above.  And to round things off, every week I'll leave you with a cool (or at least I think so) bit of trivia involving one of the teams featured in the acca. Simples...

2025-26 season Current P and L: 0

2024-25 season's P and L: +16.9

  • Mallorca v Barcelona
  • Saturday August 16, 18:30
  • Selection: Over 2.5 goals @ 8/13

Barcelona have had a pretty quiet time of it on the transfer market this summer, which is hardly surprising given their dire financial situation. But the good news for them is that they have an excellent squad already and assuming there aren't any last-minute sales of big-name players before the transfer window closes, they'll be extremely competitive again this season.

They had plenty of ammunition in attack last season, part of the reason why 89.5% of their away matches last campaign ended with over 1.5 goals, while for their opponents this week, Mallorca, it was 63% of their home matches that had at least three goals in them during the 2024-25 edition of La Liga.

The last two games between these two in Mallorca ended 1-5 and 2-2, making us think we should really get at least three goals in this game.

  • Saturday August 16 20:30
  • Estrela de Amadora v Benfica
  • Selection: Benfica win and under 3.5 goals @ 19/20

As is usually the case with Benfica, a couple of players have moved on during the summer, guaranteeing serious profits on their investment with Alvaro Carreras, Alvaro Cabral and Orkun Kokcu good examples of that, while talisman Angel Di Maria left on a free, returning to his native Argentina.

But Benfica are used to this sort of thing happening every year and have made some shrewd signings to make up for those losses. In the process, they've hit the ground running, with a 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon in the Super Cup followed by back-to-back 2-0 wins over Nice in Champions League qualifying.

So that's three clean sheets in a row. Crucially, they play Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahçe on Wednesday so that will be their main focus given the amount of money up for grabs for qualifying to the Champions League proper. Yes, they'll want to win their first game of the season, but their minds will be on Wednesday, which could also lead to some team changes, making the side a tad weaker.

But they should win against a side they have beaten in all of their last three visits to. Given their flawless defensive record so far this season, I'd fancy them to keep a clean sheet here and I suspect they'd be happy to take a 2-0 or even 3-0 win, without busting a gut for more. Let's hope so.

  • FC Nantes v PSG
  • Sunday August 17 19:45
  • Selection: PSG to win and Over 1.5 Goals @ 4/9

PSG left it late on Wednesday night against Tottenham in the European Super Cup but the fact they forced penalties when 2-0 down in the second half suggests this is a side with something about them. Which we already knew given they did after all win the Champions League last season, in addition to making the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.

They open their Ligue 1 campaign against Nantes, who finished in 13th place last term.

PSG struggled here last season, drawing 1-1, but won 2-0 the season before and 3-0 the season before that.

PSG had an 88% strike rate for over 1.5 goals matches away from home last season, winning 12 of their 17 away games in the process.

So, you'd fancy them to win this game now they've had to endure a tough test at the start of the season, while that 88% strike rate for over 1.5 goals is impossible to ignore.

James' Fun Fact

When Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United during the summer, he became the first English player to represent the Blaugrana since Gary Lineker, who moved back to England to play for Tottenham in 1989, after three somewhat successful seasons at the Camp Nou, where he scored 51 goals.
