World cup betting tips - daily accumulator

After two seasons of good profit, our 3-3-3 columnist Jamie Pacheco will be branching out this summer and bringing us his daily World Cup trebles and he looks to continue his fine tipping form. An opening day win got him off to a flyer but he's been snake bitten over the weekend.

His Wednesday selections start with a heavy-favourite getting the job done and ends with a Frenchman showing several cards. Check out what his selections are and why below as he takes us through his World Cup Betting Tips for Wednesday's matches at the World Cup...

  • Portugal v DR Congo - Back Portugal to win and under 3.5 goals @ Evens

For the past two years, I’ve been running the 3-3-3 column.

Here were the rules regarding how it worked.

3 - The number of different selections making up the acca.

3 - The number of different (non-English) European Leagues the selections are taken from every week.

3 - The minimum odds (3/1) or 4.0 if you prefer, that the acca will come to it every week.

And these were the column’s results over the past two years, so pretty impressive stuff.

2025-26 season Current P and L+16.5pts

2024-25 season’s P and L: +16.9pts

World Cup P and L: -0.3

There will be a special edition of the 3-3-3 column during the Group Stages of the World Cup and possibly beyond. Of course, there won’t be matches picked from three different leagues this time round as they’re all from the same competition, but there will be picks from three different matches, and they’ll always come to at least 3/1 across the acca. So we’re keeping things as close as possible to the classic 3-3-3 format.

RECAP: Another day where we’re out of contention after just the first match with Uruguay failing to beat Saudi Arabia. Having watched the game, Uruguay were pretty fortunate to even have gotten away with a draw.

So we’re into negative territory for the first time this World Cup with just that first day win to show for our efforts.

It’s proving a tough World Cup for favourites with lower-ranked teams who are adapting well to the hot and humid conditions, causing some upsets.

So our focus right now is to get back into profit and then build on that.

  • Austria v Jordan
  • Wednesday 17 June, 05.00
  • Back Austria to win @ 4/11

We’re kicking things off with the shortest-priced of the three as Austria take on Jordan.

Austria are one of the most-improved sides in world football at the moment and in decent form, beating Tunisia, Ghana and Korea in their last three friendlies and performing well in qualifying.

Jordan have done well to get this far but they haven’t won in five and conceded at least two goals in each of those, losing 2-0, 4-1 and 3-2 against Colombia, Switzerland and Morocco and securing 2-2 draw against Nigeria and Costa Rica.  Conceding another two here would be more than enough for us to get our win.

This may be tighter than some may think, but Austria really do look a level above them and should get the win one way or another.

  • Portugal v DR Congo
  • Wednesday 17 June, 18.00
  • Back Portugal to win and under 3.5 goals @ evens

In theory this could be another match where the heat plays into the hands of the underdog, who defend and frustrate for as long as they can while trying to create a goal out of nothing.

But here’s the thing. A team like Portugal, so dominant in possession and comfortable with almost passing the ball into the net, may not be so affected by conditions as some, and their energy levels should remain high throughout, with some excellent players with fresh legs champing at the bit to play their part.

So Portugal really should win this as a classy outfit against a side ranked 46 in the world.

But Congo should put up a good fight here, nonetheless. They recently held Denmark to 0-0 and Nigeria and Senegal to 1-1, so they really do give it their all.

Considering none of Congo’s last 13 games had more than three goals in them, we like Portugal to win and under 3.5 goals, with Portugal 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 and 2-1 all good enough to see us home.

  • England v Croatia
  • Wednesday 17 June, 21:00
  • Back Over 2.5 Cards @ 4/7

I’m not sure I’d be rushing to back England here at odds-on with uncertainties regarding their best XI, mediocre results in friendlies and a theory that they’re not going to like the sapping conditions on the day.

Instead, we’re going to go with the idea that a tough, competitive fixture like this one should have at least three cards in it.

Ref Clement Turpin averages 3.41 yellows a match this season from 106 games and also showed eight reds, so that alone suggests we’ll get those three yellows.

Three or more yellows would have been a winner in four of Croatia’s last five, four of which were friendlies, so their games have had a fair few. And may have a few more now that we’re into World Cup game territory.

It would also have been a winner in all of the last four games between these two sides, so good numbers to suggest we should be safe here.

James’s Fun Fact

Portugal and DR Congo have never played each other in an international match and neither have Austria and Jordan, for that matter.
