Match Preview:

The top two teams in Group E of World Cup qualifying in Europe meet in Seville on Tuesday night. Spain currently lead Turkey by three points, and only need to avoid a seven-goal defeat to secure their place at next summer's tournament.

They have an opportunity to match the feat of England, who on Sunday became the first European team to ever progress through World Cup qualifying without conceding a goal or dropping a point.

With five wins out of five, and no goals conceded so far, La Roja are also looking very strong. They are the current favourites to win next summer's tournament, with their impressive depth on show throughout a group that hasn't really challenged them.

Despite the absences of Pedri, Rodri, Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, they brushed Georgia aside 4-0 in Tbilisi on Saturday. Mikel Oyarzabal scored twice in a convincing victory, with the Real Sociedad man moving on to five goals in five games during this campaign.

Álex Baena and Ferran Torres were the wide players used either side of Oyarzabal against Georgia, while Fabián Ruiz made his first appearance of the season for Spain in midfield. When everyone is fit, Luis de la Fuente is going to have some tough decisions to make in that department, with Arsenal duo Martín Zubimendi and Mikel Merino also playing well.

The toughest test in this group for the European champions was expected to come in the reverse fixture. However, they put in an outstanding performance in Konya, beating Turkey 6-0, with Merino scoring a hat-trick.

That was a tough night for Vincenzo Montella's side, and a reality check for an emerging team that has the potential to develop into contenders on the international stage.

In their other games, Turkey have impressed, seeing off Georgia and Bulgaria without dropping a point. They scored 15 goals across those four matches, and are guaranteed a play-off place as a result.

While Real Madrid's in-form attacking midfielder Arda Güler is seen as the poster boy of this Turkish side, fellow 20-year-old Kenan Yıldız has often stolen the show in this campaign. The Juventus player was on the top of his game again in the 2-0 weekend win over Bulgaria.

It'll be interesting to see how Montella approaches this match, which will be their final one before the play-offs. He generally looks for his team to play positive football, but the Italian may decide a more conservative approach is necessary given what happened in the reverse fixture.

Team News:

Two months on from the last meeting, Turkey will at least be spared the full force of this impressive Spanish side this time. Five of the players who started for the Iberians in Konya are not available. Dean Huijsen is the latest of those to pick up an injury, with Robin Le Normand, Pedri, Williams and Yamal the others who won't feature on Tuesday.

Euro 2024 regulars Dani Carvajal, Rodri and Álvaro Morata are also not involved in this squad. De la Fuente isn't likely to make major changes to the team that started on Saturday, although the likes of Fermín López and Marcos Llorente are potential rotation options.

As for Turkey, they'll need to make at least one alteration from their last game, as a result of a suspension for midfielder İsmail Yüksek.

Galatasaray's Kaan Ayhan was subbed on and swiftly subbed off with an injury on Saturday. He's a doubt for this game, while the visitors also have minor fitness concerns over Kerem Aktürkoğlu and Abdülkerim Bardakcı who both missed training on Sunday, but should still feature.

Spain vs Turkey Predicted Lineups

  • Spain: Simon, Porro, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella, Merino, Zubimendi, Ruiz, Torres, Pino, Oyarzabal
  • Turkey: Cakir, Celik, Demiral, Bardakci, Kadioglu, Calhanoglu, Kocu, Aydin, Guler, Yildiz, Akturkoglu

Match Odds:

Spain are priced at 1/5 to sign off with another victory. The Draw is on offer at 6/1, while Turkey are out at 12/1 to cause a major upset at the Estadio de La Cartuja.

If you're expecting another one-sided affair, you can back Spain -2.0 Handicap at 7/5. The hosts are also on offer to score over 2.5 goals at 8/11, while you can back there to be Over 3.5 goals in the game at 1/1.

Both teams to score is on offer at 10/11. If you fancy the visitors to compete until at least at the break, you can back Draw or Turkey in the First Half Double Chance market at 13/10.

Oyarzabal is one of the most obvious goal threats from a home perspective right now. The 28-year-old suddenly feels like one of the first names on the Spain teamsheet, and he's priced at 10/3 to score first, and 5/6 to score anytime.

However, the top scorer in this group is actually Merino. The Arsenal midfielder has netted six times already in this campaign, and he's available at 7/5 to score anytime. You can also back Turkey striker Aktürkoğlu to score anytime at 7/2, while Yıldız is priced at 5/1 in the same market.

Spain vs Turkey Stats

  • Spain can join England in qualifying without dropping a point or conceding a goal if they Win to Nil here.
  • Turkey haven't beaten Spain since 1967. In four meetings this century, Spain have won all four, scored 12 and conceded once.

Bet 1 - Spain to win to nil @ 6/5

Turkey have some talented attacking players, but they were second best in midfield in the first meeting, and they struggled to get much supply to their offensive stars. We've seen Spain's central dominance have a similar effect on Georgia in this group, with their star player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia not seeing enough of the ball to exert his normal influence on games.

The minimum priority for the visiting coach will be to ensure there is no repeat of September's heavy defeat. That would be a real blow to morale heading into the play-offs, and we may see Montella set up in a much more cautious manner as a result.

While they are missing some of their best players, the hosts should still have enough quality to win the game with a bit of breathing space. They look good value to record a sixth straight victory without conceding.

Bet 2 - Ferran Torres 3+ shots & Most Corners - Spain @ 10/11

When the teams last met, Spain's main goal threat came on the flanks and from midfield runners. Oyarzabal started up front and registered three assists, but didn't have a single shot in the match. La Roja focused heavily on attacking on their right, with Yamal having six attempts.

Ferran should occupy that role on Tuesday, and he ought to see plenty of the ball. He scored and assisted before being replaced in Georgia, and had three shots in total. The Barcelona forward has also got an excellent overall record for his country, scoring 23 times in 52 appearances.

He should be heavily involved in a game the hosts should dominate, and I'm backing Ferran to have three or more shots and Spain to have the most corners at 10/11.
