The Three Lions finished top of Group L after wins over Croatia and Panama and a draw against Ghana, but they had a scare in their first knockout match against DR Congo, coming through with two goals from captain Harry Kane after conceding the first goal.

Mexico will go head-to-head with England in the early hours of Monday 6 July in the UK (the night of Sunday 5 July in Mexico) at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. 

Home to Liga MX team Club America, the venue will be known as Mexico City Stadium during the tournament.

Mexico have played three of their four matches so far at the home of their national team, but they took on South Korea in Zapopan.

The Azteca has a capacity of 72,766 for World Cup matches and is an outdoor venue with a permanent grass pitch.

England will be playing at their fifth different venue of the tournament having played all four of their matches to date in the United States.

Their three group fixtures were played in Massachusetts, Texas and New Jersey, while their round-of-16 match took place in Atlanta.

The Mexico vs England match kicks off later than the Three Lions' previous World Cup matches have at 1am BST on Monday morning, which is 6pm local time.

There were reports that the kick-off could be brought forward by six hours to 7pm BST (midday local time) in order to avoid the threat of thunderstorms in the area, but the original start time remains in place. There is, therefore, a threat of a delayed start if conditions are not safe.
