Ghana are hoping to cause a few shocks at the World Cup this summer, and they’ve been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

They went out at the group stage in 2014 and 2022, and will be hoping to go one step further, at least, in North America. Below you can find my Ghana World Cup 2026 odds, as I take a look at their squad and predict how they will fare.

Goalkeepers: Benjamin Asare (Accra Hearts of Oak SC), Lawrence Ati-Zigi (St Gallen), Joseph Anang (St Patrick's Athletic)

Defenders: Baba Abdul Rahman (PAOK), Gideon Mensah (Auxerre), Marvin Senaya (Auxerre), Alidu Seidu (Rennes), Abdul Mumin (Rayo Vallecano), Jerome Opoku (Istanbul Basaksehir), Jonas Adjetey (Wolfsburg), Kojo Oppong Peprah (Nice), Elisha Owusu (Auxerre), Derrick Luckassen (Pafos)

Midfielders: Thomas Partey (Villarreal), Kwasi Sibo (Real Oviedo), Augustine Boakye (Saint-Etienne), Caleb Yirenkyi (Nordsjaelland), Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (Leicester City)

Forwards: Kamaldeen Sulemana (Atalanta), Christopher Bonsu Baah (Al Qadsiah), Ernest Nuamah (Lyon), Antoine Semenyo (Manchester City), Brandon Thomas-Asante (Coventry City), Prince Kwabena Adu (Viktoria Plzen), Inaki Williams (Athletic Bilbao), Jordan Ayew (Leicester City)

Eight wins from 10 saw Ghana to their qualifying group and there is real excitement about the quality attackers that Carlos Quieroz has at his disposal, although he is yet to finalise his 26-man squad.

Leicester City duo Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Inaki Williams and Brandon Thomas-Asante are all exciting options, but Tottenham Hotspur’s Mohammed Kudus misses out through injury.

All eyes will be on Antoine Semenyo, more on him shortly, but this looks to be a top-heavy side that is going to have to attack games in order to progress, which doesn’t fit with what we have seen from Quieroz’s international sides of the past.

World Cup Odds

He does have huge experience and they will be fancied to beat Panama in the group, while they will want to get the better of an ageing Croatia outfit. England could be too strong, but you never know.

I’m excited by this Ghanaian squad, they scored 23 goals in 10 qualifiers, and they could cause a few surprises in the United States this summer.

Key Player: Antoine Semenyo

Watching Semenyo grow from EFL starlet to Premier League superstar has been extremely enjoyable. He had talent at Bristol City but had to work on a few things, and the move to AFC Bournemouth was perfect for the young forward.

That is a club that prides itself on developing players and letting them go at the right time, and the move to Manchester City in January feels right for his career. The backheel winner in the FA Cup final is some way to make an impression on your new club, and he has made the step up with ease.

Pep Guardiola’s exit may change things next term, but after 21 goals in all competitions this term, Semenyo now turns his attention to the World Cup. He should be able to make a mark on the world’s biggest tournament.

Football Odds

Prediction: Last 16

Am I overrating a team ranked 74th in the world right now? Possibly. But I think they can make a decent impression on this tournament. England should win the group, and then I think it is a straight shootout between Ghana and Croatia for second.

Panama are tough to judge but lack the quality that Ghana do, while Croatia are no longer at the peak of their powers. I want to back Ghana to finish second and if they can do that, they will avoid a team like Portugal in the first knockout round.

I think that they could go one step further and win a knockout game at a World Cup, which would mark a terrific tournament. They’ve had two group stage exits since 2010, where they were knocked out by Luis Suarez and Uruguay in brutal circumstances.

This fascinating squad should be really fun to watch and I’m going to remain positive on their chances in North America.
