Goalkeepers: Dayne St Clair (Inter Miami), Maxime Crepeau (Orlando City), Owen Goodman (Crystal Palace)

Defenders: Alistair Johnston (Celtic), Derek Cornelius (Marseille), Richie Laryea (Toronto), Niko Sigur (Hajduk Split), Joel Waterman (Chicago Fire), Luc de Fougerolles (Fulham), Moise Bombito (Nice), Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Alfie Jones (Middlesbrough)

Midfielders: Stephen Eustaquio (Porto), Ismael Kone (Sassuolo), Tajon Buchanan (Villarreal), Mathieu Choiniere (Los Angeles FC), Ali Ahmed (Norwich City), Nathan Saliba (Anderlecht), Liam Millar (Hull City), Marcelo Flores (Tigres UANL), Jacob Shaffelburg (Toronto), Jonathan Osorio (Toronto)

Forwards: Jonathan David (Juventus), Cyle Larin (Southampton), Tani Oluwaseyi (Villarreal), Promise David (Union SG)

This is just Canada's third appearance at the World Cup finals but this one is going to be the most special as they are co-hosts and the world's greatest sporting spectacle will have games held in Vancouver and Toronto.

The Canucks will have two fixtures in Vancouver and one in Toronto for their Group B matches. There is a real buzz across these two cities as the start of the tournament edges ever closer.

John Herdman led Canada to the finals in Qatar four years ago but Les Rouges have a new man at the helm this time around. Jesse Marsch, the former USA international, is the man tasked with improving Canada's image on the world stage.

He took this post after being snubbed for the USA gig and he has now spent over two years in the role. In that time, the ex-Leeds United manager has slowly and quietly rebuilt the side, bringing in a culture that demands intensity and respect.

World Cup Odds

Marsch has taken longer than some of his peers to declare his 26-man squad. Yes, he is not spoilt for choice with world-class talent like some of the big dogs, but it shows a calculated approach from a coach who is hoping to bring joy to the Canadian people by making sure he picks the right players and for the right reasons.

Jonathan David is Canada's all-time leading goalscorer, so he will be seen as one of the Canucks' figureheads at the World Cup. We could come to know Canada's forward line as the two Davids, with Promise David hoping to have an impact up front having made a name for himself in Belgium with Union Saint-Gilloise.

Then there is the likes of Tajon Buchanan, the Villarreal winger who can also operate at full-back if required. He's just finished the season with seven goals in La Liga. Another wide player is Liam Millar, who just helped Hull City return to the Premier League after 10 seasons away.

Two other stars who just featured in this year's Championship are Cyle Larin (Spyhampton, sorry Southampton) and Ali Ahmed (Norwich City).

Player to watch: Jonathan David

As Davies faces a race to be fit in time for the first game, a lot of added responsibility will rest on David's shoulders this summer. Not that he wasn't going to be feeling the pressure already as their all-time top goalscorer.

David has pedigree in Europe with Lille and now Juventus. His exploits can be the difference between elation and heartbreak for Canada.

Football Odds

Prediction: Round of 16

I'm backing Canada to reach the knockout stage for the first time in their history. Head coach Marsch has described his squad as the best that has ever been assembled for Les Rouges, so even he's feeling optimistic.

Group B is tricky on paper but I think there's a good chance that this will be one of the eight groups that sees three teams progress. I'd say Canada have a good shot at taking second, and if that were the case, I believe they can defeat a few of the potential runners-up in Group A to reach the round of 16.

However, this is currently as far as I think they will go.
