FIFA Club World Cup Winner Prediction: Real Madrid and PSG fancied

The Club World Cup gets underway on Sunday and excitement is building before the curtain-raiser, which sees Inter Miami host Al Ahly at the Hard Rock Stadium. Real Madrid @ 4/1
The 14-time European champions, or as Trent Alexander-Arnold would now call them ‘el club de fútbol más grande del mundo’, are the outright favourites to win the first edition of the expanded Club World Cup. After missing out on La Liga and the Champions League this season, Florentino Perez’s charges will be going all out to win this one, and there will of course be extra intrigue, given this is the first test for new manager Xabi Alonso.
The legendary Carlo Ancelotti has now departed for Brazil, and Alonso has to work out how to get the best out of the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and of course - new addition Trent. If Alonso gets things right from the off, they are going to be tough to stop - but that’s a big ask given the short amount of time he has had to work with the players.
Real Madrid Club World Cup Preview
Paris Saint-Germain @ 9/2
The newly-crowned European champions are the talk of the town right now, and since winning their first Champions League title, they’ve shrunk in the betting from 8/1 to 9/2 to win this competition. Given they also won the French Cup and Ligue 1, Luis Enrique’s men are going to be confident heading to the United States of America, but they do have a couple of issues.
Ousmane Demebele will miss the group stages with a quad injury and Bradley Barcola is also out. Is this one step too far for youngster Desire Doue after a draining campaign, or can they make light work of the opposition again? A tough team to oppose if they can avoid any major shocks in their group - with their first opponents Atletico Madrid set to provide a tough test.
Manchester City @ 5/1
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been active in the transfer market after a rare trophyless season that saw them miss out on all domestic honours, and the Champions League. Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait-Nouri are in, with Kevin De Bruyne the major exit this summer, as Pep looks to refresh his side.
They’ve made three top quality signings and City should go well at this Club World Cup. Again, those players are going to have to settle in quickly, but after a disappointing campaign, I think they could be the ones that go all the way.

Bayern Munich @ 7/1
Harry Kane has already won one trophy this season, so how about making it two with the Club World Cup? Bayern Munich regained supremacy in the Bundesliga by 13 points and they’ve also got the likes of Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry in their arsenal.
Jamal Musiala is also on his way back from a hamstring injury which could be key, and with a straightforward group, this lot could be the value selection. Vincent Kompany could make a serious statement with a Club World Cup win, but he still has something to prove at the elite level in my eyes.
Bayern Munich Club World Cup Preview
Chelsea @ 10/1
Enzo Maresca did a decent job with Chelsea, taking them into the top four and winning the Conference League, but this does feel like a big step up, even with the recent additions. Liam Delap has joined from Ipswich Town to lead the line but their squad still looks bloated.
As a result, there is no place in their squad for the likes of Djordje Petrovic, Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, Ben Chilwell or Axel Disasi. They are coming into this on a hot streak, having won eight of their last nine matches in all competitions, but I still can’t see them going all the way and winning in the United States of America.
Chelsea Club World Cup Preview
Inter Milan @ 14/1
The Champions League finalists were brutally exposed by PSG in Munich and given they also lost the Serie A title to Napoli, it feels like they will find it tough to reset for this competition. They’ve also got to cope with the loss of Simone Inzaghi, who was tempted away by the riches of Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Former player Cristian Chivu has been named as his replacement, joining from Parma, but I can’t see this ageing squad being able to compete with the other elite teams at this tournament.
Inter Milan Club World Cup Preview
Atletico Madrid @ 14/1
Outside the top three in the betting, Atletico Madrid have the best chance of going all the way in my opinion. Diego Simeone’s men came up short in the league and the Champions League this season, but they only lost on penalties to Real Madrid in Europe and ran Barcelona close in the Copa del Rey as well.
They are stable heading into this competition, with Simeone still at the helm, and have the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Julian Alvarez in attack. I think they can ruffle a few feathers, and an opening game win over PSG would see these odds shrink dramatically.
