Palmeiras vs Al Ahly Bet Builder Tips: 10/1 shot for Group A clash

Both Palmeiras and Al Ahly got off to dreary 0-0 starts at the Club World Cup, and as a result Group A remains completely level before the second round of fixtures. Having held Porto, the Brazilian side will be the happier of the two, as Al Ahly failed to beat Inter Miami despite creating big chances against their hosts.

Palmeiras to win 

I’m going to side with the Brazilians to narrowly edge this game, based on what we saw in the first matches. Palmerias were strong against Porto, the team fancied to win Group A, and arguably should have taken all three points. 

They had more possession, more shots, more shots on target and they completed more passes but they couldn’t quite find a goal to take the three points. However, they will fancy their chances of qualifying having got their most difficult game on paper out of the way.

Al Ahly did well against Inter Miami and missed several key chances, but Inter Miami’s elderly attack did manage 14 shots in total and the second half proved that the Egyptians are susceptible to conceding chances. Palmeiras are a level above the Herons, and should get the job done.

Under 2.5 goals

Off the back of two 0-0 draws, I can’t see this game having loads of chances. In fact, I’m hoping Palmeiras can keep a clean sheet here as their defence did extremely well against Porto, conceding just 1.25 xG against a strong European outfit. 

I’d expect that figure to be far lower here, while I also don’t believe that the Verdao will rack up the goals. Under 2.5 offers us a bit of leeway for a Brazilian win by a scoreline of 1-0 or 2-0, so let’s add that to our Bet Builder. 

Over 8.5 corners 

Al Ahly conceded a whopping 10 corners to Inter Miami in their opener, while having four themselves, so I think adding a corners selection is sensible for this Bet Builder. In Palmeiras’ first match, there were eight corners in total, four apiece, but I think the fact they will have more of the ball in this game should lead to more corner kicks. 

Al Ahly wil back themselves to defend set pieces well, as they did in their first match, so I expect the total corner count to reach double digits. I’ll play it relatively safe here however, and back over 8.5 corners.

Marwan Ateya to get booked

I also wanted to add an Al Ahly card to round off this Bet Builder, and Marwan Ateya is the most likely candidate in my eyes. The combative midfielder has picked up the most yellows out of anybody in the Al Ahly team, six in total, while he was the only Egyptian to get booked in the opening game against Inter Miami. 

In a game that I believe they will have to do far more defending, Ateya is likely to have to commit a few fouls, and he’ll do well to avoid the referee’s notebook.
