Club World Cup Team Betting Predictions: Botafogo

Reigning Copa Libertadores champions Botafogo have been dealt a tough hand at this summer's Fifa Club World Cup in the USA, with the Brazilians drawn against Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid and Seattle Sounders in Group B.

Below are my Botafogo Fifa Club World Cup 2025 predictions, where I pick out a player to keep an eye on and assess Fogo's chances of reaching the knockout stage.

Group A: PSG, Atletico Madrid, Botafogo, Seattle Sounders

Player to watch: Artur

Botafogo completed a historic treble last year, winning the league and cup in Brazil either side of success in the Copa Libertadores final.

The first six months of 2025 haven't been too kind to Fogo, however, as they lost in the Recopa Sudamericana and the Supercopa do Brasil, and are sixth in Serie A after 11 rounds of fixtures.

One of their standout stars last year, Luiz Henrique, moved to Russian giants Zenit at the start of 2025, while Lyon loanee Thiago Almada and Copa Libertadores Golden Boot winner Junior Santos (Atletico Mineiro) also departed the club.

Artur Jorge left his post as head coach in January and was subsequently replaced by Renato Paiva, who has lost seven of his first 20 matches in charge.

Fogo face a tough fight to get out of Group B in America, with Uefa Champions League holders PSG and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid expected to take the two qualification spots.

Jorge's side will be expected to beat Seattle Sounders, but whether they can take any points off the French giants or the La Liga side, remains to be seen.

Player to watch: Artur

Speculation continues to swirl around the futures of Fogo trio Jair Cunha, Cuiabana and Igor Jesus, all of whom have been strongly linked with a move to English Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

Someone more likely to be playing at the Club World Cup, and certainly beyond July, is Brazilian forward Artur, who only joined Fogo from Zenit earlier this year.

The 27-year-old took a little while to get going back in his homeland, but he's started to come into his own over the last couple of weeks, netting in three of his last five appearances.

As well as being a goalscoring threat, Artur has a creative streak in him, registering four assists already this season, and he will be crucial for Fogo in the final third this month.

Prediction: 3rd in Group B

Fogo can count themselves unlucky that they have been drawn in a group with two titans like PSG and Atletico. The other Brazilian clubs, Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense, have been much more fortunate, with all three fancied to qualify for the last 16.

Unfortunately for Paiva's side, I think a third-place finish is about as good as they can hope for, with PSG and Atletico tussling it out to top the group.
