Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers both suffered big defeats on the weekend, the former taking a 4-0 battering at Manchester United and the latter losing 4-2 at home to AFC Bournemouth. The two teams meet each other next, at Goodison Park on Wednesday (19:30, Amazon Prime Video), and if there is to be a loser, we can expect the manager of that team to come under huge pressure.

Team News

Tim Iroegbunam, James Garner and Youssef Chermiti remain in the Everton treatment room, but on-loan Chelsea striker Armando Broja made his return to action for Everton's U21s last Friday and is close to making a matchday squad for the first time this season; whether that comes on Wednesday or in Saturday's Merseyside derby, remains to be seen.

Talking of centre-forwards, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was dropped down to the substitutes bench at Old Trafford on Sunday but could return to the starting XI in midweek in place of Beto, who was handed a rare opportunity to impress from the off against the Red Devils.

Football Odds

Wolves defender Nelson Semedo received his fifth yellow card of the campaign on Saturday and as a result will serve a one-game suspension on Wednesday, opening up an opportunity for Matt Doherty to make just his third Premier League start of the season, and first since August 25.

Meanwhile, Yerson Mosquera, Pedro Lima, Enso Gonzalez, Sasa Kalajdzic and Boubacar Traore remain injured for the visitors, who are at least bolstered by the recent returns of Hwang Hee-chan and Sam Johnstone, the former making two brief substitute appearances over the past two weekends and the latter returning to the squad on Saturday.

Hwang and Johnstone, alongside Craig Dawson and Pablo Sarabia, are among those hoping for promotions to the starting XI at Goodison Park.

Everton are 23/20 to triumph for the first time since October 19, which gives the hosts an implied win probability of 46.5%, while Wolves are 13/5, or a 27.8% chance, to make it back-to-back victories on the road following a 4-1 hammering of Fulham at Craven Cottage in their last away game on November 23.

The draw is priced at 12/5, both teams to score at 8/11, and over 2.5 total goals at 10/11.

Calvert-Lewin (15/8) heads the anytime goalscorer market, followed by Broja (21/10), Beto (11/5) and Wolves star Matheus Cunha (9/4), who has netted in four consecutive Premier League away matches.

Anytime Goalscorer - Matheus Cunha (WOL) @ 9/4

Cunha was kept at arm's length by Bournemouth on Saturday, with the Brazilian managing just two shots - both in the first half and both off target - at Molineux.

However, I'd be surprised if he was kept as quiet at Goodison Park on Wednesday, particularly given his recent record on Wolves' travels.

The Brazilian has scored in his last four away games, netting five in total - one at Aston Villa, one at Brentford, one at Brighton & Hove Albion, and a brace at Fulham.

Cunha was also on target in the last head-to-head between Wolves and Everton, which took place in December 2023 at Molineux. The 25-year-old struck the opener in a 3-0 victory for the Old Gold and he'll be looking for similar success on Merseyside in midweek.

Everton have kept two clean sheets in their last three home games, playing out goalless draws with Newcastle United and Brentford either side of a 1-1 draw against Fulham, but the Toffees shipped four goals to Man United last Sunday and will do well to shut out a Wolves side that has scored in all 12 Premier League matches since losing 2-0 at Arsenal on the opening day of the season.

Cunha has been key to their 22-goal tally as he is responsible for 31.8 per cent (seven) of that number, and I'm backing him to carry on his fine form on the road in L4.

Not another stalemate for Everton, surely? Sean Dyche's side have drawn 55.6 per cent (five) of their last nine games and two of their last three at home, with only Crystal Palace (six) earning exactly a point on more occasions than the Toffees this term.

Wolves, meanwhile, have drawn three times this season, and two of those stalemates have come away from Molineux.

The Old Gold won home (3-0) and away (0-1) against Everton in 2023/24, finishing six points above the Blues, although it should be noted that the gap was much wider for the majority of the season before Wolves slowed down toward the end and Everton sped up with relegation on their minds.

There are, though, just two points separating 18th-placed Wolves and 15th-placed Everton heading into this midweek contest, with very little between them.

If Wolves were at home, I'd probably back Gary O'Neil's side to do the business, but at Goodison Park, where Everton are four games unbeaten, I'm struggling to tip an Everton defeat, so I'm going to play it down the middle and select a third draw in four, and a fourth in six, for Dyche's charges on Wednesday. It wouldn't be an ideal result for either, particularly the hosts who are winless in their last five matches, but it may just be a case of 'take the point and move on'.
