Premier League strugglers Everton and Burnley may have bigger fish to fry this season but a place in the League Cup quarter-finals awaits the winner of their clash at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

The Toffees will be looking to build on their 1-0 league success at West Ham on Sunday, while the Clarets have lost eight of their 10 Premier League matches this season.

Everton vs Burnley Prediction

  • Everton to win @ 19/20
  • #PickYourPunt - Under 2.5 goals, Beto to score at any time, Draw-Everton half-time/full-time result @ 16/1

Match Odds

With a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs, Everton are 19/20 to get the job done against Burnley in 90 minutes while the Clarets are 3/1. There will be no extra-time so the match is 12/5 to go to penalties.

Over 2.5 goals is an EVS chance with unders available at 8/11, while punters can get 4/5 that both teams score.

Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are 9/2 joint-favourites to score the game’s first goal.

Team news

Both teams will prioritise Premier League survival this season, so we should expect to see plenty of changes in both line-ups.

Ashley Young will be available for Everton after serving his suspension for being sent off in the recent Merseyside derby and it appears likely that Calvert-Lewin will be left out despite his winning goal against West Ham on Sunday.

Beto could come in to deputise for the centre forward but it would not be a surprise if Sean Dyche made changes in defence and midfield too.

It could be a similar story for the Clarets with Arijanet Muric likely to be between the posts in place of regular goalkeeper James Trafford.

Jacob Bruun Larsen and Jay Rodriguez have also been given League Cup opportunities this season and could start at Goodison.

Everton to win @ 19/20

Fulham, Wolves, Arsenal and Luton have all won at Goodison Park in the Premier League but the Toffees have shown enough in recent matches to suggest they can come out on top against the Clarets.

A 3-0 home win over Bournemouth was most welcome and Dyche’s team have recorded some decent away results, winning at Brentford and West Ham.

They also won at Aston Villa in the previous round of the League Cup, which was a great result considering the Birmingham outfit have won their last 12 home league games.

Results of that nature should mean Everton preserve their top-flight status with a bit to spare, but it looks as if Burnley will not have that luxury after the Championship winners lost eight of their opening 10 league games.

Clarets boss Vincent Kompany has other priorities than this competition and it should be the home side who complete the victory without the need for a penalty shootout.

#PickYourPunt - Under 2.5 goals, Beto to score at anytime & draw-Everton half-time/full-time @ 16/1

It would not be a surprise if this game turned into a grind, even though Burnley have conceded 25 goals in their 10 league games.

Everton’s 3-0 win over the Cherries was the first time in 15 home games in 2023 that the Toffees have scored more than one goal, so under 2.5 looks a good place to start in a #PickYourPunt selection which would pay 16/1.

Beto should get the nod up front for the Toffees and has already scored in the competition this season, netting in the 1-0 win over Doncaster.

He could be inspired by his positional rival Calvert-Lewin scoring the winner against the Hammers on Sunday, so take him to score anytime.

The draw-Everton half-time/full-time result is also attractive. Dyche’s side have been ahead at the intervals in just two of their 12 games this season and level in six.
