Equatorial Guinea vs Guinea-Bissau Prediction: Goals to Nsue in Abidjan

It's a battle of the Guinea's in Group A on Thursday (KO, 14:00), as Equatorial Guinea take on Guinea-Bissau at Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan.

Guinea-Bissau's Africa Cup of Nations campaign started in difficult fashion last Saturday as they were tasked with an opening night fixture with hosts Ivory Coast, who prevailed 2-0 after scoring their opener in the fourth minute.

The African Wild Dogs will fancy their chances more on Thursday as they face a side only 15 places above them in the FIFA rankings, but Equatorial Guinea will be confident of securing the win for themselves after holding Nigeria to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Iban Salvador was the hero for Equatorial Guinea last weekend as his opener set the Thunder on their way to a point. Head coach Juan Micha may opt to name an unchanged starting XI given the positive result achieved against the Super Eagles.

Guinea-Bissau could turn to Bolton Wanderers winger Carlos Mendes Gomes for some added attacking thrust after setting up to contain Ivory Coast in their first fixture.

Both nations will have viewed Thursday's match-up as their best chance of picking up a victory in a tough-looking Group A containing a couple of traditional African powerhouses in Ivory Coast and Nigeria, so the sides should be leaving everything on the field in this one.

Equatorial Guinea are the favourites and should be confident after scoring against Nigeria and picking up a point. They will know that a victory is vital to avoid potentially having to draw with, or beat, Ivory Coast in their last group game.

Similarly, Guinea-Bissau will be aware that they may meet a Nigeria side needing a positive result on the last matchday, and after coming away empty-handed on Saturday, they need to at least avoid defeat here to stand a decent chance of advancing to the knockout stage.

It was tough against the hosts last week but Guinea-Bissau had scored in five of their previous six games, including a couple against Mali in a friendly earlier this month, and there are goals in the side with the likes of Lyon's Mama Balde in attack.

With both teams looking to win, there could be goals in this one.

The former Middlesbrough and Birmingham City right-back is his country's captain and all-time record goalscorer with 17 goals in 39 caps.

Nsue plays up front for Equatorial Guinea and put in a tireless shift against Nigeria, even managing to fire off two shots against the Super Eagles.

He should find more success against Guinea-Bissau, and with his nation looking to secure a victory which would likely seal their place in the round of 16, the odds of him to score anytime look generous.

Nsue struck four international goals last year and successfully converted the last penalty awarded to Equatorial Guinea, against Tunisia last June.
