England left much to be desired after their 1-1 draw against Uruguay on Saturday, and supporters will want to see improvements against Japan at Wembley in their follow-up fixture on Tuesday (19:45 BST, ITV1).

The Samurai Blue defeated Scotland at Hampden Park over the weekend and they will look to finish their trip to the UK in style. Read on for my England vs Japan predictions, accompanied by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Eight England players have withdrawn from the squad, including Noni Madueke, who was injured in the draw on Friday.

Thomas Tuchel raised eyebrows with his team selection against Uruguay, so he is expected to name a stronger XI on Tuesday. Dean Henderson, Nico O’Reilly, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane should all be considered for starts.

Football Odds

Kaoru Mitoma and Daichi Kamada will be itching for minutes after being subjected to cameos in the victory over Scotland.

They picked up no fresh injury concerns in Glasgow.

England vs Japan Predicted Lineups

  • England: Pickford; White, Konsa, Guehi, O'Reilly; Anderson, Mainoo; Palmer, Rogers, Gordon; Kane
  • Japan: Suzuki; Taniguchi, Watanabe, Ito; Sugawara, Kaishu Sano, Kamada, Mitoma; Doan, Maeda; Ueda

England vs Japan Odds

England are deemed the 8/15 favourites to win this clash. The Three Lions have six wins from their previous seven outings.

Following their draw with Uruguay on Friday, the draw is marketed at an attractive 3/1 price.

It's 9/2 for Japan to leave with the victory, which they have accomplished in each of their past four fixtures.

Nine of the Samurai Blue's last 11 matches have seen at least one team fail to score - with BTTS - No available at 8/11.

 England vs Japan Stats

  • Japan have only lost 2 of their last 24 international matches (W18 D4)
  • The last meeting in England ended in a 1-1 draw - June 2004
  • England have scored the first goal in each of their last 14 fixtures
  • Harry Kane has scored 10 goals in his previous 10 appearances for the Three Lions

Today's Football Fixtures

Double Chance - Draw or Japan @ 13/10

If England play like they did the other night, then Japan should fancy themselves to extend their winning streak. Yes, many of the Three Lions' star players are likely to come in for this clash, but the Samurai Blue have suffered just two defeats across their past 24 fixtures in all competitions - winning 18 of them. This will be another tough test for England.

The Three Lions have won six of their previous seven fixtures, so their big hitters should feel that they can the team back on the winning trail. But I can't look past the fact that Japan have taken down Brazil during their current winning run, and England are not a team to be feared at this moment in time.

I think the visitors are worth covering with a draw in the double chance market.

First Goalscorer - Harry Kane @ 5/2

Should Kane come into England's attack, I think there is a good chance we will see him get on the scoresheet. The striker is the Three Lions' all-time record goalscorer and he has struck 10 goals in as many appearances heading into Tuesday's contest.

The 32-year-old has been in red-hot form for Bayern Munich this term, netting 48 goals in 40 games across all competitions. I like his 5/2 (implied probability of 28.6%) price to open the scoring because he's England's biggest threat in the final third, and the hosts have scored first in each of their previous 14 fixtures.
