Lee Carsley's side started a little shaky when the tournament began but they have grown with each game and now they are exuding confidence as they bid to reach the final for the second consecutive tournament. Read on for my England U21 vs Netherlands U21 predictions, accompanied by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

England are going to be without Liverpool's Tyler Morton for this semi-final clash due to suspension. The midfielder collected his second yellow card of the tournament against Spain in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

After seeing his team produce a strong defensive display against Spain, Carsley is likely to stick with a back four of Jack Hinshelwood, Jarell Quansah, Charlie Cresswell and Tino Livramento.

Elliot Anderson should return in midfield after dropping down to the bench at the weekend. The Nottingham Forest man wrapped up the victory for the Young Lions from the penalty spot in the dying stages.

Omari Hutchinson and Harvey Elliott are likely to maintain their places on the flanks but Tom Fellows and Jonathan Rowe provide alternative dynamics if necessary. Rowe started the tournament up top for England but that role has been taken up by Birmingham City's Jay Stansfield, who has led from the front brilliantly in the last couple of games.

James McAtee is set to continue his role as the number 10 to complete a very exciting front four.

England U21 vs Netherlands U21 Stats

  • England U21 have won three of their last four matches
  • Harvey Elliott (ENG) has two goals at the Euros so far

The Netherlands are missing Ruben van Bommel following his red card in the quarter-final against Portugal. Devyne Rensch and Kenneth Taylor are also banned for this one after they picked up their second yellow cards of the tournament on Saturday.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo, Antoni Milambo and Ernest Poku are among the options to be selected to fill in for the suspended players.

Aston Villa's Ian Maatsen is likely to operate at left-back while Stoke City's Million Manhoef should continue in attack.

England U21 vs Netherlands U21 Odds

England have won three of their last four matches and they are 23/20 (which has an implied probability of 46.5%) to win this tie inside 90 minutes

Six of the 11 meetings between these sides in history have ended in a stalemate, and the draw is marketed at 5/2.

The Netherlands have won two of their past four games and they are 9/4 to prevail in regulation time.

There have been goals at both ends in England's previous two outings in Slovakia and BTTS is available at 8/13.

England U21 to win (in 90 mins) @ 23/20

After a brilliant tactical victory over Spain, the pre-tournament favourites in the quarter-finals, England have shown their credentials to defend their crown. The Young Lions have been improving with each game they play and the last two matches has been helped by the presence of Stansfield up front.

Birmingham's poster boy has finally started getting recognition for what he brings to the teams he plays for. His intense pressing led to a goal against La Rojita last time out, while his movement always opens space for his teammates - including Alex Scott's goal against Germany.

It has helped the Young Lions to focus in attack and everyone is now singing from the same hymn sheet, as the earlier matches were filled with wrong-placed passes. The Netherlands looks to be another tough game on paper, and Jong Oranje do have a respectable record against England.

They too have been improving as the tournament has gone on and this has the makings for a fascinating semi-final tussle. However, after seeing England handle Spain in the manner that they did, I think the Young Lions will be able to roar into a second Euros final in two years.

Harvey Elliott anytime goalscorer @ 13/5

Things are now clicking for England in attacking areas and I think if they go out and perform like they did against Spain, there could be more goals on offer to them against the Dutch.

Liverpool's Elliott, who while taking part in this tournament is being linked with an Anfield exit this summer, has been a very bright spark in attack, netting two goals in four appearances.

If he is to be leaving Liverpool this transfer window, his performances for the Young Lions are unlikely to leave him short of suitors. The 22-year-old is playing with lots of confidence out in Slovakia and he is making a habit of getting into good scoring positions. I believe he is worth backing to get on the scoresheet again in this first semi-final.
