Dynamo Kyiv are in the box seat as Hamrun Spartans visit Arena Lublin tonight (19:00). The Ukrainian side lead 3-0 from the first leg of this Champions League second qualifying round.

The two-time European Cup Winners Cup holders will be fairly confident facing the Maltese champions at home. Dynamo are looking to reach the group stage for the first time since the 2021/22 season. Meanwhile, Hamrun have never won a two-legged tie in either the European Cup or Champions League iteration of Europe’s banner competition.

Here are my Dynamo Kyiv vs Hamrun Spartans predictions ahead of Tuesday’s tie.

Team News

Dynamo appear to have almost everyone fit and firing for this tie. Brazilian midfielder Vitinho has extended his loan to Internacional, but otherwise the full squad is available to manager Oleksandr Shovkovskyi.

The former Ukraine national team manager may choose to rotate a little from the side that started in Malta. Such adjustments would make sense given the three-goal advantage and a league game at Veres Rivne to come on Saturday.

Football Odds

Nazar Voloshyn’s goal and assist off the bench in the first leg might see him bumped up to the starting XI, offering a chance to rest ex-West Ham United star Andriy Yarmolenko’s 35-year-old legs.

Hamrun are a little worse for wear coming into this all-important tie. Defender Vincenco Polito came off injured in the first leg, with no word on his return for the second. Forward Merlin Hadzi joined on a free from FC Paradiso this month, but missed the first leg through injury. He is doubtful for Tuesday’s tie.

Dynamo Kyiv vs Hamrun Spartans Odds

Kyiv are 1/7 to win in 90 minutes, giving them an 87.5% implied probability of success. Spartans are your 11/1 underdogs on the night while a stalemate between these sides is priced at 11/2.

Home Team Total Goals Over 3.5 @ 2/1

Dynamo ran free in Malta, netting three against their beleaguered opponents. Despite the bulk of the work being done, I do feel it will be just as one-sided in Ukraine. Man-for-man, Shovkovskyi can call upon players of a far higher calibre all over the pitch.

The 4-3-3 system Kyiv generally employ allows for solidity as well as scoring success. Dynamo led the defensive charts in the Ukraine Premier League last season, while they only trailed third-placed Shakhtar Donetsk for goals scored.

This form and function will frustrate and decimate Spartans.

To Win Both Halves - Dynamo Kyiv @ 23/20

I think strength in depth will play a major part here. Kyiv brought Buyalski, a Ukraine international midfielder, off the bench to seal the deal in the first leg. Their other changes were 43-cap countryman Mykola Shaparenko and a pair of Ukraine age-group internationals.

Hamrun brought on promising Belgium under-20s man Mouad El Fanis among four substitutes who were all 21 or under. But it is not the same as carrying players who have scored at the European Championship for their country in reserve.

This is why I am expecting goals and dominance from Kyiv, despite the tie being won. There will be players on that Dynamo bench keen to make their case for starting in the league. What better way than to score from the bench in a Champions League qualifier?

I am anticipating goals in either half here from the Ukrainian side. One or two to kill the tie for good before half time. Same again after the break, as Kyiv’s illustrious subs take advantage of tired legs and inexperience from the opposition.
