Dundee United vs Rangers Prediction: Back the away side to win 0-2

Dundee United host Rangers at Tannadice from noon on Sunday in a match you can follow live on Sky Sports. The locals aim for a win needed to keep pace with the early leaders while the visitors know they must bounce back from a heavy defeat at Celtic Park last time.

Dundee United entered the international break with only Celtic and Aberdeen above them in the Premiership pecking order after four games. Jim Goodwin’s team enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season, winning two and drawing two, scoring six goals and conceding just three.
The eight points collected is already one more than the visitors, and a home win would see them heap more misery on Gers manager Philippe Clement.
It has been a poor start to the season for Rangers, who were eliminated from the Champions League by Dynamo Kyiv, losing 3-1 on aggregate over two legs.
The team were forced to play their home matches at Hampden after renovation work at Ibrox spilled into August, lost 3-0 to Celtic in the Old Firm derby, and returned from the international break in fourth place. Improvement is needed and quickly.
Dundee United enjoys home advantage and have performed better than their opponents so far this season, but that isn’t evident in the pre-match betting odds available to Betfred customers.
The current prices make Dundee United huge underdogs for a home win, and, as any follower of Scottish football knows, that’s a dangerous stance. Bettors willing to take a chance on an upset can back Dundee United at odds of 7/1 to take all three points.
Rangers arrive in the City of Discovery determined to bounce back from a painful loss to Celtic in this month’s derby. The Gers were never competitive in that game and rarely looked like scoring until the game was lost and Brendan Rodgers made substitutions.
Pressure is building on the Rangers board, manager Clement, and his underperforming side. Everyone in the away dressing room know they must win on Sunday, but Tannadice is a tough place to visit, especially when under stress. A Rangers win is 2/5 favourite, with the draw 18/5.
With a tense afternoon expected at Tannadice, we’re backing this game to produce fewer than three goals at odds of 11/10, which is better than expected. That approach would’ve resulted in a profit in each of the previous two games involving these teams and in six of the last seven. That stat is good enough to catch our attention and merit an interest.
Flicking through Dundee United’s form so far this season, we see the locals scored one goal against Hearts, St Mirren, and Ross County as Goodwin attempts to make his team difficult to beat. Rangers kept a clean sheet against Ross County, St Johnstone, and Hearts last month, suggesting the defence is good enough to keep the home team at bay.

Followers of our Scottish Premiership previews have already enjoyed some fantastic correct score wins at great odds this season and we’re aiming to land another early on Sunday afternoon. Dundee Utd 0-2 Rangers is the pick, and the stats suggest we’ll get a run for our money at a price.
The head-to-head results show Rangers scored exactly two goals in each of their last four meetings with Dundee United, with three games producing a 2-0 win for the Gers. Rangers won 2-0 at Tannadice in their most recent visit, thanks to goals from Fashion Sakala and Malik Tillman. They followed that with a 2-0 home win, with the German scoring a double that day. Rangers fans need someone to step up and deliver on Sunday.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
