Dundee United entered the international break with only Celtic and Aberdeen above them in the Premiership pecking order after four games. Jim Goodwin’s team enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season, winning two and drawing two, scoring six goals and conceding just three.
The eight points collected is already one more than the visitors, and a home win would see them heap more misery on Gers manager Philippe Clement.
It has been a poor start to the season for Rangers, who were eliminated from the Champions League by Dynamo Kyiv, losing 3-1 on aggregate over two legs.
The team were forced to play their home matches at Hampden after renovation work at Ibrox spilled into August, lost 3-0 to Celtic in the Old Firm derby, and returned from the international break in fourth place. Improvement is needed and quickly.

Pressure is building on the Rangers board, manager Clement, and his underperforming side. Everyone in the away dressing room know they must win on Sunday, but Tannadice is a tough place to visit, especially when under stress. A Rangers win is 2/5 favourite, with the draw 18/5.
With a tense afternoon expected at Tannadice, we’re backing this game to produce fewer than three goals at odds of 11/10, which is better than expected. That approach would’ve resulted in a profit in each of the previous two games involving these teams and in six of the last seven. That stat is good enough to catch our attention and merit an interest.
Flicking through Dundee United’s form so far this season, we see the locals scored one goal against Hearts, St Mirren, and Ross County as Goodwin attempts to make his team difficult to beat. Rangers kept a clean sheet against Ross County, St Johnstone, and Hearts last month, suggesting the defence is good enough to keep the home team at bay.
