Derby County have made a pretty decent start to the new Championship campaign having been one of the favourites for relegation. Paul Warne’s men finished second in League 1 last term, and have now picked up three wins from six matches to take themselves into the top half of the second tier.

Their next test comes at Pride Park on Saturday, as they host Norwich City at 12:30 on Sky Sports Football. The Canaries are finding their feet under new boss Johannes Hoff Thorup, and they put in their best performance so far last time out, as they dismantled Watford 4-1 at Carrow Road.

Below you can find my Derby vs Norwich prediction, with betting tips and team news included.

Derby vs Norwich Betting Tips

  • Norwich to win and BTTS @ 18/5
  • Borja Sainz to score first @ 9/1

Team News

Callum Elder came off injured for Derby at Bramall Lane, and he could miss this one having been sent for a scan to assess the extent of the damage to his groin. David Ozoh and Liam Thompson are both out until the next international break at least, but Tom Barkhuizen could come back in after two weeks on the sidelines. Tawanda Chirewa is available once more as Warne looks to make it four wins from four at home.

Thorup is likely to name the same XI as he did against Watford given the level of the performance was so high. Sargent will lead the line, with Borja Sainz, teenager Oscar Schwartau and Ante Crnac supporting him. José Córdoba will partner Shane Duffy at the back, with Jack Stacey pushing to win back his place at right-back from Kellen Fisher.

Derby vs Norwich Odds

Derby are priced at 13/8 to take three points on home soil, while the away side can be backed at 6/4. A draw is available at 12/5, over 2.5 goals is 5/6 and BTTS is 4/6.

In terms of goalscorers, Josh Sargent is favourite to score first at 11/2, followed by Jerry Yates at 6/1. The American has scored twice in the league already, and will look to add to that tally here.

Norwich to win and BTTS @ 18/5

This was a tough one to predict, but I’m going to plump for the away side. I’ve been impressed with Derby this season at home, I mean, how can’t you be? Three league wins from three, zero goals conceded and a thumping 3-0 win over Bristol City are the headline stats, so the Canaries are certainly in for a tough test.

However, they were so good in their last game, and the mood amongst the Norwich fans is far more positive than it has been over the last few years. They are right behind their new boss, and they possess one of the best strikers in the division, so I’m going to back them to come out on top. However, I also believe they may concede, as they did against Watford and given Derby’s strength at Pride Park. This could be a cracking game.

Borja Sainz to score first @ 9/1

My eyebrows were raised when I saw these odds, which is certainly a good thing and something we should look to take advantage of. Borja Sainz is a fantastic left winger for Norwich, and it appears he has taken up the attacking mantle after the departure of Jon Rowe and Gabriel Sara.

Sainz already has three goals to his name, one more than Sargent, and his runs in behind are causing serious problems for the opposition. He’s now scored two in his last three games, including the winner at Coventry, so I think these are big odds for the Spaniard to find the net first.
