Chelsea look to have been handed a favourable group draw and will expect to finish in the top two, starting with a win against MLS opposition.

Los Angeles FC are currently fifth in the Major League Soccer Western Conference standings and were late additions to the tournament, after Mexican side Leon were removed.

This level of football looks a step too far for Steve Cherundolo's squad, which includes former Premier League stars Hugo Lloris and Oliver Giroud.

Chelsea Club World Cup Preview

All the comments coming out of the Chelsea camp have been positive and suggest they want to go deep in this tournament, having already sealed their place in next season's Champions League.

Los Angeles have been leaking goals in recent times and that will be music to the ears of the Blues, who have plenty of firepower in the attacking third.

Chelsea vs Los Angeles Stats

  • Chelsea's last two Premier League games saw them keep clean sheets against Man Utd and Nottingham Forest.
  • Los Angeles have conceded five goals across their last three MLS matches.

Total Goals - Over 2.5

The Premier League side head into their tournament opener off the back of a four-goal show in the Conference League final victory over Real Betis.

Chelsea now face a much lower quality team and haven't had long to prepare for this tournament.

Many of LA's squad are either stars who have had their best years or younger players who have never faced a test like this before.

The Californians have conceded an average of 1.43 goals per game in MLS, so Chelsea are likely to take full advantage of their defensive weakness.

Los Angeles Club World Cup Preview

Cole Palmer to score at anytime

After a lull during early Spring, Cole Palmer bounced back to finish the season strongly and played a key role in Chelsea securing silverware.

The England international scored 15 goals last term and claimed 12 assists, and will now be about to prove that he can deliver on a world stage.

Palmer will see this as a perfect opportunity to start the tournament with a bang and, considering he also takes set-pieces, looks the best option in the scoring markets.

Enzo Fernandez 2+ shots

One of the most significant changes to Chelsea's style of play since the turn of the year has been the decision to give Enzo Fernandez more license to get forward.

The Argentine World Cup winner was often previously used as a holding midfielder but has flourished in a more advanced role.

Fernandez scored eight goals last season, six of those coming in the Premier League, whilst also registering 14 assists for the Blues.
