Chelsea will embark on their quest to win their first trophy under the reign of Todd Boehly as they take on AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening (19:45).

Chelsea v AFC Wimbledon Prediction

  • Chelsea to win and BTTS – No @ 3/5
  • Correct score: Chelsea 3-0 AFC Wimbledon @ 5/1
  • Noni Madueke – Anytime Goalscorer @ 6/5

Team news

Mauricio Pochettio is expected to make changes as he welcomes League Two opposition to Stamford Bridge. We can expect those on the bench in the win over Luton Town, such as Noni Madueke, Ian Maatsen and Mason Burstow, to be given starts here as the new manager gets to grips with his squad.

It’s a squad that has been hampered with injuries, as Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and Carney Chukwuemeka, among others, remain out. Although Armando Broja is nearing a return, as is Benoit Badiashille, neither will feature here.

Chelsea to win and BTTS – No

Wimbledon are in good form in League Two having got themselves up to fifth and they are yet to concede a goal in their three matches on the road. However, they are going to be seriously out-gunned here, even by a younger-looking Chelsea outfit.

With Robert Sanchez confirmed to start in goal, Chelsea should be able to keep a clean sheet and dominate possession, so adding BTTS – No to the home win gives us slightly improved odds on what is a narrow-margin bet on paper.

Correct score: Chelsea 3-0 AFC Wimbledon

Searching for value in this game brings us to the correct score market. If we believe Chelsea will win to nil, we can back 2-0 at 5/1, but given the attacking talent at his disposal, we’ve leant towards 3-0 at the same price.

Chelsea will pen the opposition in their own half and should create a hatful of chances, and converting three of them feels like the right number across 90 minutes. The Blues are unlikely to put Wimbledon to the sword and score four or five, and you can see them easing off once the win is in the bag.

Noni Madueke – Anytime Goalscorer

The returning English winger hasn’t yet been able to make a big impression under Pochettino, but is likely to be given a start and possibly a full 90 minutes here. If that is the case, expect Chelsea to turn to him at every possible opportunity.

He will be running at the Wimbledon defence and will look to get several shots on goal off, and looking at the other candidates, the 6/5 on offer for him to score anytime is the one we will go for.
