Southampton vs QPR Prediction: Saints to march over the Rs

With four wins from six in the Championship, Southampton are showing play-off form. The Saints are back in action on Tuesday at St. Mary's, with Queens Park Rangers making the trip south (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Main Event).
The Rs picked up a rare away victory at Hull City last time out and will look to build on that here. Below you will find my Southampton vs QPR predictions, accompanied by the latest match odds and team news.

Team News
Jay Robinson (muscle) and Mads Roerslev (knee) remain sidelined for Southampton through injury. Leo Scienza was taken off with a muscle problem in the weekend's 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic, so he may be a doubt to feature in midweek.
James Bree is another fitness worry following the stalemate with the Addicks.
QPR are missing Karamoko Dembele Ziyad Larkeche (both cruciate ligaments), Kwame Poku, Rumarn Burrell (both hamstring) and Justin Obikwu (muscle) for this clash due to injury.
Ilias Chair will be hoping that he can be declared fit to return from his own injury spell.
Southampton vs QPR Predicted Lineups
- Southampton: Peretz; Jelert, Harwood-Bellis, Stephens, Manning; Downes, Charles; Fellows, Archer, Edozie; Stewart
- QPR: Walsh; Edwards, Dunne, Mbengue, Norrington-Davies; Madsen, Hayden, Vale, Saito; Kone, Kolli
Southampton have won four of their last six league games and they are the 7/10 favourites to prevail here.
The other two results have been draws, which has also been the case in three of QPR's previous four away trips in the second tier. The stalemate is marketed at 11/4.
The Rs were 3-1 winners at Hull last time out and they are 18/5 to win consecutive matches on the road.
Southampton vs QPR Stats
- Southampton have won 4 of their last 6 league games
- They beat QPR 2-1 in the reverse fixture back in November
- Ross Stewart scored against Charlton last time out
Match Result & Both Teams To Score - Southampton & Yes @ 11/5
Consistency has been an issue for Southampton this season, hence why they are not in the race for automatic promotion. Their best chance of an instant return to the Premier League lies in the play-offs, but they have a lot to do to secure their place in the top six with several teams having the same idea.
QPR are one of them and both teams sit on 47 points, four adrift of Wrexham in sixth. This is a big game for the Saints to try and close the gap, while denting another rival's play-off hopes.
As much as results have been up and down for the hosts this term, they look like they are finding form at the right time. They are unbeaten in six games and have won four of them. And despite being held to a point at home against Charlton last time out, I think they should fancy their chances against QPR on home turf.
The Rs have one of the worst defensive records in the division with 47 goals conceded and only three teams are worse off currently.
Southampton have a lot of options at their disposal and this should be the difference, but I do think QPR will get on the scoresheet as BTTS - Yes has landed in four of their past five league appearances.

Anytime Goalscorer - Ross Stewart @ 11/8
Ross Stewart's Southampton career has barely begun despite him being at the club for over two years now. Injuries have really hindered him from making his mark for the Saints.
A hamstring injury kept him out for a few months between October and January this season but he has managed to play a part in each of his side's previous eight league games.
The forward has three goals in that time, with two coming across his last two appearances against Leicester City and Charlton. The Scotsman now has five league goals in 16 league matches this campaign.
We know from his time at Sunderland just how effective he can be in front of goal when he is fit, so for as long as his body is in working order, he will pose a huge threat to Championship defences, particularly weak ones such as QPR's.
