Sheffield United vs Coventry Prediction: Bamford to haunt Sky Blues?

Sheffield United relegated their nearest rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon, but Chris Wilder’s men didn’t make it easy for themselves after a shaky second-half performance. Their next test comes on Wednesday night as they host league leaders Coventry City at Bramall Lane (19:45 GMT, Sky Sports+).
The Sky Blues are targeting three league wins in a row, and below you can find my Sheffield United vs Coventry predictions.

Team News
Sheffield United are without Kalvin Phillips for this one after his red card in the Steel City derby, so Wilder must decide who partners Sydie Peck in midfield. Djibril Soumare may be a more natural replacement than Oli Arblaster, and could provide the defensive solidity they need.
Other than that, we should see an unchanged Blades team, with former Sky Blue duo Callum O’Hare and Gustavo Hamer both set to start along with Andre Brooks, behind striker Patrick Bamford.
Coventry have also found their rhythm and Frank Lampard seems to have a settled XI heading to Sheffield. Joel Latibeaudiere and Bobby Thomas should continue their new-found centre-back partnership, while Haji Wright should lead the line.
After his wondergoal against West Brom, Jack Rudoni will start as the number 10, flanked by Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Ephron Mason-Clark.
Sheffield United vs Coventry Predicted Lineups
- Sheffield United - Cooper; Seriki, Tanganga, Bindon, Burrows; Peck, Soumare; Brooks, O'Hare, Hamer; Bamford
- Coventry City - Rushworth; Van Ewijk, Latibeaudiere, Thomas, Dasilva; Onyeka, Grimes; Sakamoto, Rudoni, Mason-Clark; Wright
Sheffield United vs Coventry Odds
Sheffield United are priced at 7/5 to win this game, while Coventry are 7/4 to take the win, showing just how tight this one is. A draw is 12/5, over 2.5 goals is 4/6 and BTTS is 8/15.
In terms of goalscorers, Wright is a decent option at 6/4, while Bamford is 7/5 to find the net at any time.
Sheffield United vs Coventry Stats
- Coventry have won one of their last nine away games, but it came last time out against West Brom
- Patrick Bamford has nine goals in 17 appearances
Draw and both teams to score @ 3/1
I think we are in for an entertaining evening at Bramall Lane with plenty of goalmouth action. Both teams should score given the attacking quality on show, with the likes of Hamer and O’Hare desperate to strike against their former club.
Coventry look to have turned a corner with back-to-back wins, but their away form has been poor of late, with the win at West Brom ending a run of eight without a win on the road. Despite the improvement, I’m not sure we can hang our hats on a complete turnaround for the Sky Blues on the road, given the shocking level of performances from WBA of late.
A draw here feels like a result that both teams would be satisfied with, while both teams should get on the scoresheet.

Price Boost - Patrick Bamford to score first @ 11/2
Betfred have put forward a Price Boost for tonight’s game and I think we should take advantage. Bamford actually trained with the Sky Blues earlier in the season when he was without a club, and he is a player Lampard likes - so it would be fitting for him to find the net against these players he knows so well.
Bamford has nine in 17 since signing for the Blades, two in his last three, and scored the opener against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday. Decent price to open the scoring.
