Middlesbrough vs Charlton Prediction: Boro continue Premier League push

After a slight blip, Middlesbrough have got back on track with back-to-back away wins, in which they have scored seven goals. Those wins have strengthened Boro’s grip on second, and they will look to make it three wins in a row as they welcome Charlton to the Riverside (19:45 GMT, Sky Sports+).

Team News
Kim Hellberg would have been tempted to name the same XI as the side that hammered QPR 4-0 on Sunday, although the short turnaround may tempt him into rotation. He is also set to be forced into at least one change as Dael Fry’s consistent injury issues forced him off in the first half, with Adilson Malanda set to partner Luke Ayling once again.
Tommy Conway got a goal and an assist off the bench and could replace David Strelec up top, but aside from that, we can expect more of the same from Hellberg’s side.
Nathan Jones may also be tempted to go unchanged after Charlton beat Birmingham 1-0 last time out. Luke Chambers and Harry Clarke appear to have provided balance in the wing-back positions, allowing Tyreece Campbell to join Lyndon Dykes in attack. Conor Coady is likely to have to settle for a spot on the bench.
Middlesbrough vs Charlton Predicted Lineups
- Middlesbrough - Brynn; Brittain, Ayling, Malanda, Targett; Morris; Sarmiento, Hackney, Browne, McGree; Conway
- Charlton - Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Clarke, Carey, Coventry, Docherty, Chambers; Campbell, Dykes
Middlesbrough vs Charlton Odds
Boro are the favourites here as you’d expect, priced at just 4/11, which gives them an implied win probability of 73%. Charlton are 7/1 to land a shock win while a draw is priced at 7/2.
Over 2.5 goals is 4/5, BTTS is 11/10 and Morgan Whittaker is the favourite to score first at 7/2.
Middlesbrough vs Charlton Stats
- Boro have won their last two games
- Boro have only lost two home matches this season
- Riley McGree has scored three goals in his last five
Riley McGree to score anytime @ 15/8
Hayden Hackney rightly gets all the headlines as the star of this Boro team, and he will surely be playing in the Premier League next season whether they get promoted or not. However, Riley McGree is a man who looks every bit ready for the step up, and he’s getting better as the season progresses.
Fitness issues have plagued him this season and he’s only managed 18 Championship appearances, but he does now look fully fit and back to his best. He’s started six of the last seven games, and he’s got three goals in his last five outings.
Having failed to score against QPR in that rout, he’ll be desperate to get back amongst the goals on Wednesday and I still think he offers far better value than the likes of Conway, Strelec or Whittaker.

Price Boost - Boro to win both halves @ 5/2
Betfred have a Price Boost for this game, and I think it is worth taking advantage of. Although Jones’ teams can be really tough to beat, and they look to have done enough to secure their survival this term - Boro are just a class above most teams in the Championship.
After a slight wobble, they have now won two games in a row, and they won both halves against QPR last time out. I think this home game should play into their hands and I foresee another strong home performance from the promotion chasers.
