Sunderland to beat Sheffield Wednesday

Sunderland suffered a surprising defeat to Cardiff City at home last time out, ending a run of three consecutive wins. The Black Cats will look for a response this weekend and there is no better side to face right now in search of that than Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls are still winless in the league and are continually being hindered by constant statements from owner Dejphon Chansiri. They are bottom of the table and it doesn’t appear like their first win of the season is coming any time soon. Sunderland boast one of the brightest attacks in the division with 15 goals scored in their opening eight matches.

Friday night is set up for Tony Mowbray’s side to get back to winning ways and inflict more misery on Sheffield Wednesday.

Queens Park Rangers to beat Coventry City

This may come as a surprise given that Queens Park Rangers are yet to win at home this season, but they are in much better form than their opponents Coventry City heading into the weekend. The R’s earned a valuable point against Birmingham City last week and managed to keep a clean sheet. They also created some decent chances which will give them confidence as they return to home soil.

Coventry are really feeling the effects of Gustavo Hamer’s transfer to Sheffield United as they are struggling to win the midfield battle in their games. Huddersfield Town’s late equaliser on Monday would’ve seen their confidence drop further. This could play into QPR’s hands on Saturday.

Cardiff City to beat Rotherham United

Cardiff City have made an excellent start to the season under new boss Erol Bulut. The Bluebirds sit seventh in the table with four wins from their opening eight fixtures. They will have gained great confidence from beating promotion hopefuls Sunderland last time out, and now they face much simpler opposition on paper in Rotherham United.

The Millers have only mustered one win this term, although an impressive one against Norwich City. Rotherham are finding it really difficult to put points on the board and they are going to have a tough afternoon in search for another three points in Cardiff.

Leeds United to beat Southampton

Leeds United are really starting to build momentum under Daniel Farke. They are unbeaten in their last six outings, winning three of them. Southampton, on the other hand, have not won in their last four, with pressure mounting on boss Russell Martin.

Southampton are currently not living up to the billing of the expectations placed on them before a ball was kicked, and despite the level of quality in their ranks, they can’t buy a win at the moment. Form is with Leeds in this one and Farke knows that victory over a promotion rival will do wonders for morale in his camp.

Ipswich Town to beat Huddersfield Town

The Tractor Boys are flying in the Championship. Kieran McKenna’s side are second in the table after winning seven of their eight opening fixtures. Their confidence has been raised further after they came from behind to eliminate Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Ipswich are unstoppable right now and they are going to be a really tough test for Darren Moore in his first home match as Huddersfield Town boss. Their heads are up after rescuing a point at Coventry last time out but they are about to face a much tougher opponent.
