England’s second tier returns this weekend as those Championship clubs strive to take another step towards the Premier League. Leicester take on Leeds to get the action underway on Friday night, but our accumulator picks come from Saturday’s action.

Championship Accumulator Tips:

  • Ipswich Town to beat Birmingham @ 5/6
  • Bristol City to beat Sheffield Wednesday @ 11/10
  • Preston North End vs Coventry: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6
  • Rotherham vs QPR: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6

Fourfold pays 11/1

Ipswich Town to beat Birmingham @ 5/6

Ipswich have been simply sensational so far, enjoying the second best start to a Championship season since the competition was rebranded. Kieran McKenna’s men have been practically perfect and haven’t lost a league match since late August. The Tractor Boys have won their last four on the bounce and by contrast, Wayne Rooney has lost all three of his games in charge of Birmingham City. After an unwanted managerial change by the fans, things could turn sour at St Andrews.

Bristol City to beat Sheffield Wednesday @ 11/10

There’s a John Eustace theme from our first two picks. The former Birmingham boss is expected to take charge of Bristol City ahead of the weekend and at home to bottom club Sheffield Wednesday, he can get off to a winning start. Wednesday picked up their first win of the season as they beat Rotherham 2-0 at Hillsborough, but they are still one of the weakest squads in the division. Meanwhile Bristol City are a decent attacking outfit and with Eustace’s touch, can run riot against the Owls.

Preston North End vs Coventry: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6

There weren’t many other results in the Championship that I was willing to hang my hat on, so instead I’ve added a couple of under 2.5 goals selections to this accumulator. Our first pick comes from Deepdale, as PNE host Coventry City. Preston had a stunning start to the season but have fallen away in recent weeks, and now sit second bottom in the form table over the past six matches.

That run has seen them draw two and lose four, while they haven't won at Deepdale since mid-September. Meanwhile, the Sky Blues are suffering from a play-off hangover and have now lost three in a row without scoring. Their poor start to the season sees them down in 20th, and this is unlikely to be a game high on quality.

Rotherham vs QPR: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6

This one follows the same theory as the above. The Millers and QPR are both in the relegation zone and likely to drop down to League One come the end of the season. With ten and 12 goals scored respectively, only basement boys Sheffield Wednesday have been worse in front of goal and now the two blunt attacks meet.

Rotherham were beaten by Owls in midweek which gives you a sign of where they are currently at, while Rangers have replaced Gareth Ainsworth with unknown quantity Marti Cifuentes. This one is unlikely to be a thriller.
