Qarabag vs Dinamo Zagreb Prediction: Blues bound for Champions League berth

Wednesday will see Qarabag welcome Dinamo Zagreb for a Champions League qualifying round second leg and the hosts have a mountain to climb. They were beaten 3-0 in Zagreb last week, leaving them on the brink of a heartbreaking exit at the final hurdle before the first edition of the new Champions League format gets under way next month.  

Qarabag will likely employ an attacking approach as they look to overcome a three-goal deficit, but Dinamo’s experience could shine through and see them book their place in the new-look league phase.

Qarabag have no fresh injury concerns and after resting a few players in a domestic clash on Saturday, could name an unchanged lineup from the one which lost in Zagreb as, despite the loss, it is arguably the best side Gurban Gurbanov could select.  

Dinamo also have no new injuries but Sadegh Moharrami, Arijan Ademi and Mauro Perkovic remain sidelined.  

Sergej Jakirovic may bring in Sandro Kulenovic from the start following his two-goal haul from the bench in the first leg.

Qarabag are 19/20 favourites to win the match, which is understandable as Dinamo Zagreb, who are 11/5 to win in 90 minutes, will feel the job is already done. The draw is available at 3/1.  

Both teams to score seems a likely outcome and can be backed at 8/15, with over 2.5 goals another big player at the same price.  

Qarabag's Juninho is the 9/2 favourite to open the scoring, with Dinamo's Petkovic not far behind in the betting at 6/1.

Dinamo will arrive in Baku in good spirits with a feeling of overconfidence potentially something the hosts could look to exploit.  

Qarabag bounced back from a 2-1 loss in the first leg of the previous round before beating Ludogorets 3-2 in 90 minutes to force extra-time and ultimately win that second leg 7-2, suggesting they do have the mindset and talent to overcome deficits.  

However, Zagreb are a side littered with talent, from Croatian striker Bruno Petkovic to former Juventus winger Marko Pjaca, and a loss will not be on their agenda.  

The hosts have struggled at home recently, losing to Ludogorets and Turan at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium this month, and while they may have enough to prevent defeat, it is unlikely they will be able to completely contain a side who have won all five of their matches this term.  

Back Dinamo to get the job done by earning a draw in Baku, with 2-2 an appealing correct score bet at 11/1 due to the attacking talent in both squads.  

Sandro Kulenovic to score any time @ 9/5 

Petkovic is Zagreb's usual striker, however, manager Jakirovic may shuffle his pack a bit with the job seemingly done after last week's impressive first-leg victory.  

That could open up a starting spot for Sandro Kulenovic, who shone off the bench at home, netting two goals in 27 minutes on the pitch.  

The Croatian forward now has seven goals in five matches this term and after netting another brace over the weekend, he looks to be in red-hot form.  

Back Kulenovic to be a thorn in Qarabag's side once more.
