Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction: Haaland to deliver again

Manchester City return to Uefa Champions League action on Wednesday night as they host Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium (20:00 GMT, TNT Sports 1). Erling Haaland is on red-hot form and Pep Guardiola will be pleased given his team have won four out of the last five in the league.
Below you can find my Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund predictions as both teams look to continue their strong form in the Champions League.

Team News
Both Rodri and Haaland played in the win over Bournemouth so will be available again here, with only Mateo Kovacic out injured from the first-team squad. Nico O’Reilly has done well at left-back and scored against Bournemouth, but the manager may be tempted to bring Rayan Ait-Nouri back into the XI.
Savinho, Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku should play behind Haaland, with Rodri set to come into a starting role in midfield. John Stones may be brought into the defence as Pep Roulette continues, making these team news sections always tricky to write. Cheers Pep.
For Borussia Dortmund, Niko Kovac has received a boost as Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Sule should both return for Wednesday’s fixture. Schlotterbeck was ill for the weekend win over Augsburg but is now ready to play, while Sule has played only one Bundesliga match having suffered with two separate injury issues.
They both provide defensive depth for the manager, with Schlotterbeck set to replace Chelsea loanee Aaron Anselmino in the XI, while Jobe Bellingham will compete with Pascal Gross for a place in midfield. Serhou Guirassy will be relied upon for goals once again up top after his fine start to the 2025/26 campaign.
Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund Predicted Lineups
- Manchester City - Donnarumma; Nunes, Stones, Dias, Ait-Nouri; Gonzalez, Rodri; Savinho, Foden, Doku; Haaland
- Borussia Dortmund - Kobel; Schlotterbeck, Anton, Bensebaini; Couto, Nmecha, Bellingham, Svensson; Beier, Brandt; Guirassy
Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund Odds
Man City are priced at 4/6 to win this home game, giving them an implied win probability of 60%. Borussia Dortmund are 6/1 to take the three points, while a draw is 4/1 if you fancy a share of the spoils.
Haaland is unsurprisingly the favourite to score first at 7/4 against his former club, while over 2.5 goals is 4/9. BTTS is 8/13 and there’s plenty of other Price Boosts and Bet Builders on the link above.
Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund Stats

- Guirassy is averaging 2.05 shots per 90
Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals @ 23/10
I know this is a boring pick, but I think Haaland is at an untouchable level right now in world football. His manager gave him massive credit after his two goals against Bournemouth saying:
“It’s like when you play with Messi or Ronaldo, their influence is so big. Of course, we need the goals from Phil, Tijjani and the other ones who had the chances. You see the numbers of [Haaland]? Of course he’s that level.
“The difference is Messi and Ronaldo have done it for 15 years, but this is the level. The first goal [against Bournemouth], the way he shoots the ball, it’s like ‘I am going to score.’ He has that hunger. It’s top. I’ve said many times how incredibly coachable and manageable he is.”
He’s absolutely right, and he’s now on 13 goals in 10 Premier League matches and the Norwegian has four in three in the Champions League. Against Dortmund, a club he scored 86 goals for in 89 games, I think he’s going to be in for another clinical night.

Erling Haaland and Serhou Guirassy both 2+ on target @ 7/2
I’ve waxed lyrical about Haaland already, and he’s had 23 shots on target in 10 Premier League matches, at an average of 2.41 per 90. Given I’m backing him to score twice, I think we can expect him to have at least two shots on target as well.
So let’s instead talk about Guirassy. He’s scored five goals in eight Bundesliga games this term, but he’s consistent in front of goal in terms of getting shots off. In the league he’s had 23 shots in total, and 16 on target at an average of 2.05 per 90. He’s Dortmund’s biggest threat, and I expect them to trouble City on the night/ This feels like a good price even if Guirassy can’t find the net.
