Match Preview:

Barcelona are in Champions League action in Belgium on Wednesday night, with Club Brugge their opponents at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Hansi Flick's side have lost three of their last six matches in all competitions, but they did get back to winning ways on Sunday at home to Elche in La Liga. It was a different kind of test for the Catalans, with their newly promoted opponents showing plenty of attacking intent and having 51% of the possession.

It's incredibly rare that Barça see less than 50% of the ball in La Liga, but they were missing Pedri, and came up against an Elche side that also looks to play out from the back under Eder Sarabia. The visitors hit the woodwork twice in addition to their goal in a 3-1 defeat, but the result was never really in any doubt after Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres put the hosts 2-0 up inside 15 minutes.

Flick spoke of his pleasure at the performances of Ferran and Marcus Rashford in that game, and those two will likely have important roles to play again in midweek. Barcelona are in a reasonably good position in the Champions League, following victories over Newcastle and Olympiacos, but they've work to do in order to make the top eight after a 2-1 defeat to PSG last month.

This could potentially be a tricky evening as they come up against Club Brugge for the first time since a 1-0 victory in this competition back in 2002. Juan Román Riquelme scored the only goal that night for a Barça side that included an 18-year-old Andrés Iniesta.

The Belgians progressed to the round-of-16 in last season's competition. They took seven points from their four home league-phase matches, before impressively winning both legs of their play-off tie against Atalanta. While they were beaten by Aston Villa in the next round, Nicky Hayen's side consistently showed they are no pushovers, and they'll be relishing the prospect of hosting Barcelona on Wednesday night.

Their 2025/26 European campaign also started well with five straight victories. They easily saw off RB Salzburg and Rangers to reach the main stage of the Champions League, and got off to a flying start by thrashing Monaco 4-1 at home.

However, they've since been beaten 2-1 on the road in a reunion with Atalanta, while they were totally outclassed by Bayern Munich in a 4-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena on matchday three. Brugge have bounced back with three wins out of three in domestic action since then.

Hayen tends to weigh up each opponent, and has a flexible tactical approach. He may opt to set up slightly more conservatively here, but they do have some dangerous attacking players, with Greek winger Christos Tzolis enjoying an excellent season, while long-serving Hans Vanaken is still a key figure in midfield.

Team News:

Ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is a major absentee for the hosts, with Nordin Jackers set to start in between the sticks. Bjorn Meijer, Ludovit Reis and Raphael Onyedika are also sidelined.

As for Barcelona, they'll again have to cope without Pedri, while Gavi, Raphinha, Joan García and Marc-André ter Stegen are also out injured. Andreas Christensen pulled out of training this week, which may delay his return to fitness.

In better news for Flick, Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski both featured off the bench at the weekend, and are fit to play some part in Belgium following their recent injuries.

Club Brugge vs Barcelona Predicted Lineups

  • Club Brugge: Jackers, Sabbe, Ordonez, Mechele, Seys, Forbs, Audoor, Stankovic, Vanaken, Tzolis, Tresoldi
  • Barcelona: Szczesny, Kounde, Cubarsi, E. Garcia, Balde, Casado, De Jong, Yamal, Fermin, Rashford, F. Torres

Match Odds:

Barcelona are the clear favourites at 4/9 to win this game. You can back Club Brugge to claim another scalp at home in the Champions League at 5/1, while the Draw is priced at 9/2.

If you like the look of the home team, you can back Brugge or Draw at 13/8. The Belgians are also priced at 13/8 to score over 1.5 goals in the game, while you can back them to win either half at 9/5.

Alternatively, Barcelona are priced at 21/10 to win both halves. You can also back Barça to win and Both teams to score at odds of 5/4, a bet that has landed twice already in this competition this season.

With Ferran still likely to be preferred to Lewandowski up front, the Spain international is priced at 4/1 to score first and 1/1 to score anytime. You can also back Rashford to get on the scoresheet again at 11/10, while Yamal is priced at 23/20 to score anytime.

From a home perspective, Nicolò Tresoldi is expected to lead the line. He's on offer at 5/2 to score in the game, while you can back Tzolis to get on the scoresheet at 9/4.

Club Brugge vs Barcelona Stats

  • Over 2.5 Goals has hit in all Brugge/Barcelona CL matches this season.
  • Club Brugge have both conceded (Bayern Munich) and scored (Monaco) four goals in a single CL match this term.
  • Barcelona scored six last time out against Olympiakos.

Bet 1 - Nicolò Tresoldi 2+ shots & Club Brugge to score over 0.5 goals @ 1/1

All of Barcelona's last eight matches in all competitions have seen both teams score. With Raphinha missing, they are not pressing as effectively, and their midfield control will also suffer as a result of Pedri's recent injury. That will add to the pressure on a defence that has not looked convincing this term.

They are particularly vulnerable to attacks through the middle, and opposing strikers are getting plenty of opportunities against them. In their two most recent away games, Sevilla striker Isaac Romero had five shots, while Kylian Mbappé had the same number in El Clásico. Both players scored, as did Elche forward Rafa Mir, who had five attempts at the weekend against the Catalans from a slightly wider role.

Tresoldi could be the latest to benefit from some charitable Barcelona defending. The 21-year-old scored in Brugge's last Champions League home game against Monaco, and he's averaging three shots per game in the league phase.

I can see him getting opportunities, and I'm using the Bet Builder to back Tresoldi to have two or more shots and Club Brugge to score over 0.5 goals at 1/1.

Bet 2 - Over 3.5 goals @ 4/5

Brugge have scored at least twice in nine of their 10 home fixtures this season in all competitions. With Barça struggling to keep clean sheets, they look capable of causing problems in this game and should register at least one goal.

However, their defence hasn't been convincing on the European stage. They've allowed 8.1 xG across their three Champions League matches since thrashing Rangers 9-1 on aggregate in the play-off round.

With the visitors now boosted by some more attacking options following the weekend returns of Lewandowski and Olmo, Flick's side should have plenty of joy in the final third. Given that, I'm backing the game to produce Over 3.5 goals in total at 4/5.
