Atletico Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction: This could be goals galore

Atletico Madrid will look to bounce back from their 3-2 defeat at Liverpool in their opening Uefa Champions League fixture, when they host Eintracht Frankfurt at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Tuesday (20:00 BST, TNT Sports 5). 

The visitors recorded a thumping 5-1 victory over Galatasaray on matchday one, but this is expected to a much sterner test for the German outfit. Read on for my Atletico Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt predictions, aided by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Atletico defender Jose Maria Gimenez is struggling with a thigh problem, while Johnny Cardoso is nursing an ankle injury. Thiago Almada is still recuperating from a muscle issue. All three are expected to miss out on Tuesday.

Striker Julian Alvarez missed the defeat at Liverpool because of an injury, but he has featured in his side's last two La Liga matches - scoring five goals in the process. The Argentine is set to feature in attack once again as he bids to strike in the third consecutive match.

Antoine Griezmann may drop down to the bench as a result. Marcos Llorente bagged a brace at Anfield so he will continue to have a place in Diego Simeone's side.

Frankfurt striker Jessic Ngankam remains out with a broken leg, while Rasmus Kristiansen (hamstring) is also set to miss out again.

Nnamdi Collins was able to shake off a thigh issue to feature in the 6-4 victory at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, despite the centre-back filling in at right-back again.

Jonathan Burkardt is expected to lead the line for Die Adler here after finding the net in his previous three competitive appearances. He registered a goal and an assist in the UCL opener against Galatasaray.

Atletico Madrid have won their previous three home matches and they are 3/5 (implied probability of 62.5%) to claim the victory on Tuesday.

Frankfurt have won three of their four away trips across all competitions this term and they are 9/2 to come away with the three points. The draw is priced at 10/3.

This looks to be a fascinating contest on paper and given the recent form of both teams, I believe that we may be treated to plenty of goals in Madrid. I like the look of over 3.5 goals here but I easily could've gone for higher.

Atleti recorded a statement 5-2 victory here on Saturday against rivals Real Madrid, while Frankfurt won a 10-goal thriller at Borussia Monchengladbach on the same day.

Neither side's defences are thriving at the moment but their attacking players certainly are.

At least four goals have been scored in three of Atletico's last four outings in all competitions, with two coming in successive appearances on home soil.

Over 3.5 goals has been a winning selection in all seven of Frankfurt's competitive fixtures in 2025/26, four of which have come on the road.

The evidence points towards box office entertainment on Tuesday night and this could be some spectacle.

Julian Alvarez anytime goalscorer @ 21/20

There was no doubt that Alvarez would be a huge miss for Atleti at Anfield two weeks ago, and his importance to the team has been ratified with the five goals scored in the last two La Liga fixtures.

The Argentina international heads into this Champions League clash in excellent form and he should be brimming with confidence.

As much as Frankfurt are an impressive attacking side, the fact they conceded four goals against a Gladbach side whose ranks are currently lacking in attacking options due to injury, is a concern. Gladbach had only managed one Bundesliga goal in four games before the weekend.

Alvarez will be studying his opponent's weaknesses ahead of this contest and I think they are going to have a really tough time trying to stop him in his current mood.
