Hull City’s aspirations of a top six finish this term appear to be fading, after they were handed two defeats in four days across Easter weekend. They are now six points behind Norwich City, as they travel to a Cardiff outfit who dented Coventry’s promotion hopes last time out.

Both of these sides are likely to have to settle for top-half finishes, as they meet at the Cardiff City Stadium at 15:00 on Saturday afternoon. Below you can find my Cardiff vs Hull prediction, featuring team news, match odds and more.

Cardiff vs Hull Prediction

  • Hull to win @ 5/4
  • Fabio Carvalho to score anytime @ 3/1

Team News

Erol Bulut may choose to name the same team that beat Coventry on Monday afternoon, with Josh Bowler standing out in that 2-1 win. Aaron Ramsey came off the bench late on in that win, while Josh Wilson-Esbrand may also come back into the team if Bulut wants a refresh. I’m expecting an unchanged XI from Cardiff though.

Liam Rosenior made three changes to try and spark some life into his Hull City side against Leeds, but it didn’t pay off as they fell to a 3-1 defeat. Rosenior named just one natural centre-back in that defeat, while Carvalho continues to deputise up front in place of the injured Liam Delap. He’s been a huge miss for the Tigers in recent weeks, and Billy Sharp could lead the line in south Wales if the gaffer feels the need for added experience.

Match Odds

The home side are the outsiders as we head into this one, priced at 2/1 to take the points. Meanwhile, Hull can be backed at 5/4 (implied win probability 44%) and a draw is available at 21/10. BTTS is priced at 4/5 and over 2.5 goals is 11/10.

Hull to win @ 5/4

The Tigers have been poor of late, but they’ve also faced some tough fixtures. They’ve faced West Brom, Leicester, Leeds and Preston in their last six games, and although the home defeat to Stoke was concerning, I’m happy to chalk that one up as a bad day at the office.

They’ve got more than enough quality throughout their squad to go to Cardiff and win, and perhaps more importantly, they need to. They’ve now lost ground on Norwich and need to start picking up wins to close the gap. Meanwhile, the Welsh side were incredibly fortunate to beat Coventry on Monday, with Liam Kitching scoring two own goals, and prior to that they’d lost two games without scoring. I’m not convinced about them, and believe Hull will come away with the points.

Fabio Carvalho to score anytime @ 3/1

Hull’s lack of number nine has hampered them of late, but they still have a whole lot of attacking talent. Carvalho was pushed into that false nine role against both Leicester and Leeds, and he found the net against two of the finest teams in the league from that position.

Against weaker opposition, it is something that Rosenior should stick with, and against a Cardiff outfit who haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last four games, I expect him to be able to find the net. I’m staggered that he’s been priced at 3/1 to score anytime after five goals in 12 appearances for Hull, with the 8/1 on him to score first also worth a couple of quid.
