Cardiff City will be looking to post back-to-back victories in the Championship on Wednesday night (19:45) when they take on struggling Birmingham City at the Cardiff City Stadium.

We preview this second-tier clash by picking out a couple of the best markets available to punters.

Cardiff vs Birmingham Betting Tips

  • Cardiff and both teams to score - 16/5
  • Over 1.5 Cardiff goals - 11/10

Match Odds

Cardiff are the 9/10 favourites to win this clash. A draw is available at 12/5, while Birmingham are 16/5 to win their second game under Wayne Rooney.

Both teams to find the back of the net here is valued at 10/11. Over 2.5 goals is 11/10.

Team News

The hosts are going to be without Aaron Ramsey and Callum O'Dowda for the visit of Birmingham due to injury.

Alfie Chang, Ethan Laird and George Hall are out of action for Birmingham. Cody Drameh, Dion Sanderson, Keshi Anderson and Tyler Roberts are all doubts.

Cardiff and both teams to score @ 16/5

Cardiff are having an excellent season so far which is beyond most people's expectations. They are seventh in the table and level on points with Sunderland in sixth. Ramsey's injury has impacted the team because they haven't been quite as strong without the former Wales international, but they are still in a very good position as he looks set to return in the New Year.

They ended a two-game losing streak at the weekend as they defeated Millwall 1-0. Now they will be taking on a side who are currently bottom of the form table in the division in Birmingham, who have picked up just five points in Rooney's first nine games in charge - and they look woeful.

Birmingham have failed to score in their last two games but we do think they will give a slightly-improved performance from their Friday night defeat at Coventry. Rooney looks to be on borrowed time, but the players came under fire for a lack of effort, particularly when it came to defending the goals they conceded.

We may see the Blues turn up for this one but it's hard to see that right now. However, Cardiff are not the most defensively sound defence in the league and they may be presented with some opportunities to score here, but they simply have to be clinical.

This is perfectly set-up for a home win and two consecutive victories, while against lesser opposition, will be great for Cardiff's confidence.

Over 1.5 Cardiff goals @ 11/10

Most Birmingham fans have been willing to give Rooney time to settle into his job and implement his ideas but there are few defending him now with just five points from nine games and the club bottom of the form table.

Realistically, you should be seeing signs of improvement on the pitch after two months in the job but the Blues appear to be getting worse. What was once one of the strongest defences in the Championship before he arrived is now arguably the worst, with 18 goals conceded since Rooney arrived.

Birmingham always look like they are going to concede when they are attacked which is a huge worry and when people say a manager needs time, it is not truly appropriate in the second tier because of how close the gap between the top half and bottom three is.

11 points separate sixth from 21st at this moment in time so in other words, you don't get time, you get relegated. And the Blues are in real danger if nothing changes soon, whether that be on the pitch or in the dugout.

Expect Cardiff to net a couple against the visitors here because they are just too easy to score against.
