AFCON trophy lift

The second Group C match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is set to get underway at 17:00 on Monday, with Cameroon facing Guinea at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.

The Indomitable Lions will be looking to make a positive start to the campaign as they bid for their sixth AFCON title, whilst Guinea will be hoping for a good result as they attempt to make it out of a tough group including reigning champions Senegal and their opening opponents.

Both sides boast great talent in attack, and it may be those goalscorers who come to the fore in what could be a tight affair in Yamoussoukro.

Cameroon vs Guinea Tips

  • Both Teams To Score @ 11/10
  • #PickYourPunt - Karl Toko Ekambi & Serhou Guirassy to score anytime @ 15/2

Match Odds

Cameroon are slight favourites for this tie, being chalked up at 21/20, with Guinea at 11/4 and the draw available at 15/8.

Both teams to score looks a likely outcome and can be backed at 11/10 with over 2.5 goals also making some appeal due to both sides’ defensive frailties at odds of 6/4.

With Aboubakar out, Guirassy is favourite to open the scoring at 5/1 with our other goalscorer tip - Toko Ekambi - 13/2 to get the ball rolling in Yamoussoukro.

Team News

Cameroon were dealt a big blow on Friday when their captain and top scorer at the last AFCON Vincent Aboubakar suffered an injury.

However, it is not as bad as first seemed and he is only likely to miss this fixture, with Karl Toko Ekambi expected to take his place up front.

Guinea would have been worried when star player Serhou Guirassy was forced off against Nigeria last week, but the Stuttgart forward is expected to be fit and lead the line for the National Elephants.

Both Teams To Score @ 11/10

Cameroon may have won the AFCON title five times but they are not in the best form coming into this year’s tournament, winning only two of their last 10 games.

They will be hoping to find their feet in the group stage but may not get off to the best of starts against a steadily improving Guinea side who have won five of their last 10 matches and have some talent in their ranks - notably captain Naby Keita and striker Guirassy.

Cameroon are favourites for this tie but they look unlikely to have things all their own way.

They have drawn their last two fixtures 1-1 against Zambia and Libya - sides 38 and 74 places below the Indomitable Lions in the FIFA world rankings - highlighting their defensive frailties, even against weak sides.

Both sides have scored in six of Guinea’s last nine matches and the same outcome should be backed in this clash between two closely matched nations - with a 1-1 correct score bet at 5/1 making some appeal.

Vincent Aboubakar was the top scorer at the last AFCON, netting eight times at that tournament, but, with his captain injured, Rigobert Song will be expecting other members of his squad to step up.

Toko Ekambi looks likeliest to lead the line in the absence of his captain, and he could take his chance emphatically.

The former Lyon man was the second-highest scorer at the 2021 AFCON, netting five times, and could be set to step up for Cameroon, with Aboubakar out for this opening fixture.

Guirassy has been one of the stories of the season in Europe, netting 17 goals in 14 Bundesliga matches for a Stuttgart side punching well above their weight in Germany’s top flight.

The Guinea marksman was forced off in their 2-0 victory over Nigeria last week but he is expected to recover in time for this Group C clash and is the likeliest scorer for the National Elephants in what could be an open game.
