Cadiz vs Real Sociedad Prediction: Real deal Sociedad to sink the Yellow Submarine

Thursday evening (KO, 18:00) sees an in-form Real Sociedad make the 1000km journey south to face a Cadiz side dangerously close to the bottom three.

Cadiz manager Sergio Gonzalez will be pleased that his side are unbeaten in their last four league games, but there will be a cloud of frustration over him as his side have not won in this run, drawing each of these matches by a 1-1 scoreline.

For La Real, top of their group in the Champions League and on a run of nine games without defeat, manager Imanol Alguacil will be confident of continuing his side’s fine head-to-head record, with their last defeat at the Nuevo Mirandilla coming back in 1993.

Team News

Cadiz were held to a 1-1 draw at Las Palmas at the weekend and, while a point extended their unbeaten run, an injury to striker Roger Marti means that he will miss the clash against Sociedad.

Gonzalez will also be without defender Luis Hernandez and midfielder Gonzalo Escalante due to injury, whilst the game may be too early for Martin Calderon who is recovering from a cruciate ligament tear suffered in May.

Sociedad received injury blows earlier in December to Ander Barrenetxea and Brais Mendez and they will both miss this fixture, whilst Martin Merquelanz returned to training two weeks ago after two years out with a knee injury and is unlikely to be ready.

Match Odds

Cadiz are 18/5 to end their winless run, whilst Real Sociedad are favourites for this encounter at 4/5.

A draw is priced at 12/5, whilst over 2.5 goals comes in at 10/3.

Real Sociedad to win to nil @ 13/8

Sociedad’s unbeaten run in the league has propelled the northern club to sixth place, five points off of the top four and a Champions League spot.

La Real have kept clean sheets in five of their last six games in all competitions and also boast the fourth-best defence in the league, with 18 goals conceded.

Cadiz have struggled to finish off opponents in the rare occasions they have found themselves in front, with the 14 league goals scored the joint-lowest in the league.

The Yellow Submarine have also lost to six of La Liga’s top eight this season, with a draw against Real Betis their most positive result and they will likely struggle again against this in-form Txuri-Urdin side.

Booking points 40-55 @ 13/8

Four of the last five league games involving Cadiz have seen Gonzalez’s men pick up at least three yellow cards.

In the 1-1 draw at Celta Vigo at the beginning of the month, the visitors received six yellow cards, while defender Victor Chust was also shown a straight red card for a cynical pull on Celta captain Iago Aspas.

Goals have been a catalyst for calm in recent weeks for Sociedad, with only a handful of yellows being picked up after taking the lead in games.

The longer Cadiz can frustrate La Real, the higher chance of ill-discipline rising to the surface.
