A Josh Brownhill penalty was enough for Burnley to see off Plymouth in midweek and that three points took them up to second in the league as West Brom and Leeds slipped up. Meanwhile Preston bagged a 3-0 win over Watford thanks to a brace from Milutin Osmajic, a striker who is still awaiting news of his ban after biting Owen Beck almost two weeks ago.

Now we have a Lancashire derby to look forward to at Saturday lunchtime as Burnley host Preston at 12:30 (Sky Sports Football). Turf Moor should provide a belting backdrop to this one, and below you can find my Burnley vs Preston prediction.

Burnley vs Preston Betting Tips

  • Burnley -1 @ 9/5
  • Burnley to keep clean sheet @ 11/10

Team News

Manuel Benson, Hannes Delcroix and Jordan Beyer remain long-term absentees for Scott Parker but Zian Flemming could return for Burley having missed the last two games with a knock. Aaron Ramsey and Nathan Redmond are making good progress on the grass but will target returns after the international break. Jay Rodriguez could come in for Lyle Foster up front, as Parker searches for the goalscoring spark.

Football Odds

Meanwhile, Preston are still able to play in-form Osmajic for now as the FA still decide on his punishment. They went to a 3-5-1-1 system for the win over Watford and expect that to remain with Robbie Brady and Kaine Kesler-Hayden threatening wing-backs. Mads Frokjaer-Jensen provided the creativity in midfield and will look to cause problems for the Clarets.

Burnley vs Preston Odds

Burnley are priced at 3/5 to win this game, while Preston are available at 4/1. A draw can be backed at 5/2, over 2.5 goals is 10/11 and BTTS is also 10/11.

Burnley -1 @ 9/5

I don’t think much of Preston this season, and I’ve made that clear over recent weeks. They did well to batter Watford 3-0 in midweek, and they will avoid the drop, but I’m not too sure they can do much more than simply survive. They are fortunate to still have Osmajic at their disposal but I think they will come up short against Burnley.

The Clarets have a whole host of attacking individual talent and although I haven’t been completely convinced by Parker, I think we are on for a decent home win here. Foster is a superb forward at this level, while Jeremy Sarmiento, Luca Koleosho and Jaidon Anthony are all fine wide options. I think they will have a lot of fun against this PNE back three.

Burnley vs Preston - Handicap +1 Burnley, -1.00

Burnley to keep clean sheet @ 11/10

Burnley’s strength this season, despite that attacking quality, has actually been their defence. They’ve conceded just four goals in eight games so far, the lowest by far in the Championship. The Clarets have now kept three clean sheets out of their last four and I’d expect them to keep another one here.

James Trafford is already looking like the number one contender to win the Golden Glove and given the money Burnley spent on him last summer, and his future England credentials, potentially we shouldn’t be surprised. I think a Burnley win to nil is the most likely outcome.
